I think Cheveldayoff is on the hot seat now, or at least should be. I realize prices were high around acquiring a d-man (Nashville demanded a 1st plus one of Heinola or Perfetti plus more for Ekholm), and the expansion draft puts a wrinkle in any deadline day trades.. but Winnipeg was in such a good spot to come out of the North with at least adding a top 4 guy to the lineup. If they don't make it out of the North now, I'd be having a serious conversation about the direction of the team and if he's the guy to lead it or not. It was smart to not give up top prospects in a time where money is tight in the world, but when guys like Oleksiak seems to have not been moved and coulda only cost a draft pick and maybe a lesser prospect, and even bigger name guys like Savard and Montour that only went for picks. I don't see any reason why Cheveldayoff wouldn't have jumped on the chance to add guys like that with retained salary. Just seems like a lost opportunity. With the lack of movement by Winnipeg and Edmonton, it doesn't look like they'll put up much of a fight in the playoffs against the Leafs. Toronto should walk right through to the final 4 now. What a missed opportunity by Winnipeg!
