I’d expect Bergevin to add a depth D for cheap, especially since we have the extra LTIR room that doesn’t help if we don’t use it.

He is gutless and won't add what we need for a deep run! I know I am being cinical but look at the last 3 years he had 8+ Mil and was in a playoff spot and still sat on his hands.

You must admit this year is different. Bergy showed he is all in by spending $150M+ in the offseason, traded for Anderson, Allen, Edmundson and Staal, put Byron on waivers, etc.

The fact is that he will loose his job if he doesn't win a playoff serie, probably against Toronto, and he knows it.

Nobody want to lose their job without doing everything they could. Even if it means sacrificing long term success for short term result.

I think he will pay high picks for a RHD and maybe another foward (4th center or a goal scorer).

I am hopeful but with each passing day I see names come off the board it's frustrating. Toronto opened cap space by trading for Nash who is LTIR (why doesn't MB do this?) I lsles get Zajak and Palmari, Avs get Nemeth. What are we doing? Reports are that Hall has been traded but an extension is part of the trade and that is what is holding it up. MB better get out there and make better offers or he is going to miss the boat again.

Actually maybe Hall hasn't been traded yet lol. Maybe I misread the report. Find it below.

Initially I thought the reports were that Hall had been traded and is working on an extension with his new team which is what is holding things up. There was no report of who that new team was or what is involved in the trade. The story came from insider Chris johnston after rereading it it may just be Hall saying he was open to extending with his new team

Lol, calm down. Why would the habs trade for another forward? It wouldn’t make sense to give up valuable assets for a player that barely improves the team. And I’m sure that both of us and Bergevin would love if the habs could add a top defenseman, but unfortunately there are none on the market. And if you’re upset that the Avs got Nemeth, don’t be. The market is flooded with 3rd pairing D, so if Bergevin waits until the clock is ticking, the price will drop and it’ll be better than adding Nemeth.

And are your seriously getting upset at Bergevin for not buying two years when they were basically guaranteed to miss the playoffs and one year where they barely missed after being better than expected? It would’ve been extremely stupid to pay assets for short-term gain.

Bergevin is likely going to take the smart route when it’s a buyer’s market and none of the available pieces fit the team’s needs particularly well: he’ll wait it out, and he’ll add a defenseman, and if he’s sitting at 2:30 pm with a player who is very cheap and just fallen into his lap, he’ll snatch it up. No, I think you misunderstood. I only said that about Hall as an example of how quickly players are getting picked up. We don't have room for another top 6 forward unless your ok with playing Toffoli or Drouin on the 4th line, which makes no sense. IMO either does adding a depth D man,MB needs to make a move for a top pairing LHD and he needs to do it quickly or he is going to miss out. That is what my rank was about. Not sitting around offering fringe players and late picks to get the scandella's or Chiarot's or Benn's of the league but using outbreak prospect pool and top draft picks to add a Dunn orbiter or Bean or something like that. The problem with wauting is that everyone could already have a dance partner and he will be sitting the one left with an empty chair.

Ok. That’s fine that you want Bergevin to get a top pairing defenseman, but none are available. If one was available, of course he’d jump on it, but you can’t get upset for him not diving into a market that doesn’t exist.

There aren’t any great D that sellers are willing to trade, and if there are top D that teams would entertain moving it would be in a “hockey” deal which doesn’t work for the habs.

They are available if you believe the reports.

Looks like Savard and Montour are now off the board. Yet still nothing from MB.
