Description
A couple of thoughts:

1.Obviously palmieri is a great player, but this system can make players look pretty ordinary especially when they are not put with players that cater to their skill set. You’re seeing that right now - he cannot play with pageau, he needs to play with a playmaking center. That 3rd line has been brutal.
2. Get bailey off of the powerplay
3. End the komarov experiment
4. Switch Dobson and mayfield

The past two games they have looked slow and have struggled to generate quality scoring chances. It makes sense to load up the top 6 and let pageau’s line take the tough matchups.

Dobson was a little weak on the Laf goal i believe, so he'll probably get buried in the minors for a week

Lol i am not saying anything because everything I say the opposite usually happens - but my take on Dobson’s play. He was soft on the goal but so was Greene. It happens. This team needs Dobson and wahlstrom to make mistakes and get better in order to increase the teams ceiling

I actually like that 2nd line you put together, it could be really deadly. Do you think Pageau will be able to make it work with Bailey and Zajac? I feel like the biggest thing he needs is consistency; it has to be hard to have new wingers seemingly every game. Hopefully they can find stability once Wally comes back (likely after Monday's TDL).

The 3rd line would be a shutdown line - they won’t generate a ton of offense, but zajac and pageau have good shots and with baileys passing it should work.

They looked extremely slow tonight. I don’t see how you can scratch wahlstrom again on Sunday. Waive Ross johnston, no one wants him. He’ll clear

i completely agree, but if wahlstrom gets benched for, nothing? im sure trotz will find away to cut his TOI.

In all seriousness though, i'd rather see Beau on line 1 than Palmieri.

Yeah I agree they looked gassed as hell out there tonight, really flat. I just think Pageau could be a real offensive threat but if those first 2 lines click there's a lot of pressure off of him to do so. Also I hear you on the Wahlstrom front, even if there's a risk (which is basically 0) of someone claiming Johnston Wahlstrom needs to get into games the instant he is fully good to go.

It's funny because Dobson is the only one under 24 who has been allowed to make mistakes and stay on the ice. He was weak on that goal, yes, but he's learning to fail at this level and that's so important for guys of his age and they grow from it. Wish Bellows and Aho got that same treatment...

Maybe , but Dobson played 16 min tonight. All at even strength. I feel like trotz is on a game to game basis with Dobson’s ice time. As long as he’s playing every game I don’t care

Yeah I’d rather see beau with barzal, but palmieri isn’t a bad option either. I think it was you I had the conversation with that any player who comes to the isles won’t look as good because of this system. Fans think palmieri, forsberg , rackell are going to come in and have huge impacts. Then they sh*t on guys like beau and wahlstrom when they go a few games without a point

Yeah it’s a part of the process. Frustrating at times, but necessary. But then again he was the 7th D for a full season when he should’ve played over boychuk. Unique situation for sure

Pageau’s offense comes from his good shot and forechecking ability . He’s nothing special in transition. Let that line play like grinders and bailey should be able to complete some high danger passes.

I don’t think wahlstrom and pageau have special chemistry together, the line is obviously good but it’s good because wahlstrom drives play and can generate scoring chances on his own.

I think we will see palmieri with barzal Sunday. Trotz only had him and zajac playing with pageau in order to ease them into the system. We saw him put palms on the top line for a few shifts tonight.
