Voted for TOR as a winner here.

They at least got something out of it. CBJ saved them a bunch of LTIR money they didn't even need. That potential 6th rounder seems pretty meh.

This is going to be a bit unpopular because the Leafs fanbase is probably bigger than the Jackets fanbase, but here it goes ...

Riley Nash just recently suffered a possibly season-ending injury.

He will either be a minimal contributor on the 4th line or a healthy scratch in the playoffs, assuming he's even healthy by then.

His cap hit and salary at 2.75 million is large enough to be considered a cap dump.

Columbus gets all that money off the books, dumps it on Leafs nation and get a draft pick out of it.

To me, that's a win.

I voted for Columbus.

Like if you did too!

Toronto wins just because LTIR shenanigans and if Nash plays it will be in the playoffs, if Nash doesn’t play or do anything Oh no what a waste of a 7th round pick 😂

that huge move TOR was counting on.....

Honestly, tells you how much they think of the guys they already have. He'll be a healthy scratch.

It’s nice they got a pick for a guy that was out for the regular season, but Toronto gets cap space, a bottom 6 forward, and only pays a conditional 7th.

It's actual cap circumvention and I love it. Abolish the hard cap.

Like kudos to the Leafs for hiring Pridham in the first place. What an actual abuse of the language.

That's assuming he even plays for the Leafs as a bottom 6 forward.

To me, that's a bit of a stretch :/

Would rather have a guy we can throw in now or in a week rather than wait and see for playoffs. It just seems like one of those huh trades

That's literally the exact point of this trade. It gives Toronto more cap-space to acquire someone else at the deadline.

All this tells me is that you don't understand the CBA.

The Leafs gained cap space at the deadline.

Columbus saved money but not cap space.

Wow this is genius move.
Even if this doesnt work out for the Leafs, they lost what exactly???

And that is why this is win for Leafs, big time.

Genius move....no. this does nothing. Cap space barely moves the needle. He plays like a 700k 4th liner so why bother ?

All this comment tells me is that you're salty and someone who is going to be very upset when his favourite team loses game 7 in the first round again.

Leafs will only gain cap space from this trade if Riley Nash is placed on LTIR.

A quick glance at https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/mapleleafs shows it hasn't happened yet.

Until that happens, no cap space is gained.

Your assumption about my understanding of the CBA has no credibility whatsoever frown

Hilarious reading all the other Leaf fans acting like Dubas is some genius and was the first to discover this, and all the other fans whining that the Leafs are the only team to "circumvent the cap".

There have been many other variations of this trade, including earlier this year when Tampa traded for Gaborik and Nilsson.

You don't automatically get cap space because a player is on LTIR, so I have to question your understanding of the CBA then.

I never said automatically.

Point out to me where in my comments I said automatically.

There is nothing that I said on here that should question my understanding of the CBA.

You're only responding to me because I might have said something else in my comments.

I wonder what it could be?

Clearly I'm not the "salty" one lol.

And clearly I'm right ... it's just not as obvious as "their cap space didn't immediately jump on the website"

The quote you're citing from my commentary is ambiguous and open to interpretation about the issue at hand here.

Nowhere do I indicate an LTIR placement automatically results in a gain in cap space.

The quote leaves open the possibilities that the gains in cap space take time to accumulate or that certain criteria must be met for the gains in cap space to be realized.

I know what you are trying to do but it's not working.

Try a little harder next time wink

Leafs get center depth for the playoffs. Blue Jackets clear cap and now I suppose they are sellers at the deadline. Since all the Jackets got was a 7th, Leafs win the trade despite taking on Nash's cap hit.
