The Sharks said they’d move him for the right price. This isn’t that - not nearly close.

Also it’s not a good move for the leafs at all, too much term and money. Y’all need the spending elsewhere. And dubas wants a rental - not a long term commitment.

Price would cost more - and it’s already too costly for the leafs financially so it’s not worth it to pay the actual cost.

It's not enough for San Jose and it makes the leafs worse

Neutering our centre depth to depend on two aging vets for our bottom 6 C's is a bad idea

If you want to try to pry someone from San Jose it's hertl. He's 1 year from Ufa (similar to muzzin) and he can play both 1/2 wing and 3c.

He'll cost a lot (as he should). But he's someone I would part with top pieces (like Robertson and a first)

Dont even give Dubas that idea. Hertl would make them legit contenders, dont need that energy against the Habs in the 1st round

The Sharks SHOULD be shopping Hertl but aren't due to what made us cup contenders for nearly 20 years (not cup the whole time but you get what I mean). Stubbornness.

If I was the Sharks GM - even with them playing well as of late; I'd sell Hertl. While most of the team wouldn't be happy with that decision (which is also likely a factor IRL as the team believes they can run for the 4th playoff spot in the West), its the best decision. Attach Marleau to Hertl and they both get an instant chance at a cup with; Leafs, Colorado, hell even Tampa could factor in, Montreal as well can factor in. Basically any cup contender can fit Hertl in at nearly 2m aav for 2 playoff runs.

Even now tho we suck; we somehow still are in the playoff race. Which just worsens our pick, and worsens our chance at actually retooling/ rebuilding on the fly.

Bahaha.

I'm against trading our top pieces for most that is our there but I came across him being 1 year from Ufa and I'd pay the expensive asking price (as long as it wasn't crazy) for him.

Similar for Miller if Vancouver decided to retool a bit

Right? He makes like 5.25 if memory holds correctly. Him signed for 1.5 years at 50% retained is 2.6ish

For cap strapped teams like Toronto and Tampa or even just contenders like Colorado, thats worth a first and a top prospect (and I don't mean a good but not blue chip prospect. I mean bluechip).

Even Edmonton would be smart to do it. Something like broberg/Bouchard and a first and a bit more. Eases the potential loss of rnh
