Build Through Development

Date de création initiale: avr 2, 2021

Équipe: 2021-22 Sabres de Buffalo
Explications
Players who leave Buffalo generally tend to get better, so there is no likely success to be found through trades, even if it's for picks. The Sabres need to create a system and culture by building through coaching and proper player development rather than hope it 'all turns out okay'.

I would like to see younger coaches like Granato, Girardi and Ellis etc, given more opportunity to develop the current roster, rather than bring in another 'big name' or 'experienced hand', who end up coaching for their own reputation as opposed to the development of the team.

If Buffalo develops a good coaching pipeline from Rochester through to the Sabres then the team should look after itself for years to come.

Development is important he says, as he leaves 21 year old defensemen Henri Jokiharju unprotected in the expansion draft.

Don Granato is 53 by the way. He isn't young.

You have to lose someone good in the expansion draft, that's how it works. Otherwise you end up doing what the Bruins did last time and give Vegas Colin Miller to protect Malcom Subban. Three months later they lost Subban to waivers without him even playing a game. Jokiharju hasn't set the world on fire and someone has to go.
They also might as well give Granato a chance, he's about average age for a head coach, don't be so negative.

Assuming you want to keep Ristolainen the choice is Jokijarju or Borgen or pay Seattle to take Miller,

I'm not sure borgen, who has played 8 NHL games would be selected. But I've wanted to trade ristolainen for 3 years and he seems like he's happy to be moved
