Sabres can't really trade Ullmark he's their only NHL goalie on the Sabres roster.

They could take Hutchinson or get someone similar no? At this point wining really does not matter for them. Acquiring assets has to drive their thinking and decisions. Unless they have a contract worked out.

He's a UFA. The season is already lost. Wouldn't you rather get some assets for him instead of letting him walk for nothing?

Leafs have checked in on him per Elliot Friedman. Not clear what the sabres response was. Have to assume that if he is not re signed next week you will see him on the move.

They should extend him and keep him. Hutchinson isn't an NHL-caliber goalie either. Plus he would have to wait 7 days to play. Sabres can't play Tokarski for an extending period of time.

Wouldn’t bother with the wings trade. The buffalo deal seems reasonable. Wouldn’t hate it.

I won't lie and say there isn't value there. I will just say I would rather trade hall and keep Ullmark. Before you call me crazy, consider:

He is in excellent goalie playing behind a bad, hurt, covid decimated team.

I hate to disagree with someone of you stature DongLord23, but buffalo could resign him.

They already are going to finish in the bottom 3 in the league. Playing horrible goalies and losing is horrible for all their young players and prospects that are coming up confidence.

well, he missed most of it. and its the only place in north america he has ever lived and we have the cap space.

What does rfa have to do with anything I said? He is ufa, if he doesn’t have an extension in place by TDL I would imagine they look to move him. An extension or at least an agreement.

Yeah I did not mean to suggest Hutchinson can replace someone like Ullmark. I just think Buffalo probably has to pay him a bunch with salary and term in order for him to go through a potential rebuild. And he will definitely have teams interested as a UFA. I imagine Toronto themselves will be in on him. This way you get good value for him. Again, underscoring this is that the year is done, Sabers are selling and a rebuild might be coming.

It's a fair point, but the odds are better I think this year that the last place team gets the first pick (or that other teams can't jump up as much). But more important right now I think for the Sabers is whoever will not be there for next year- so the expiring contracts- have to be traded in order to retain as many assets as they can. In my opinion, unless Ullmark commits right now (or the Sabers commit to him with a good deal that he feels is the best he will get) I think you have to trade him. Then I guess in the summer they figure out their direction and see if they want to trade their big guys.
