The point behind the Vancouver deal is moving JVR while he has value and clearing money ASAP while also dealing with the Ghost situation (I like Ghost, but AV really doesn't so he has to go). Schmidt has had his sturggles but so has that whole Vancouver team, I think he could find a decent home in our top 4.
As for the Calgary trade, I mostly agree but again, I think Voraceks contract is gonna be a huge pill to swallow for the majority of teams. I could see one of Zamula or Patrick being taken out to make it a little more fair.
If I can chime in here as a fellow Philly fan, I think Voracek, JVR and Ghost need to go this off-season. I even contemplated the idea convincing Giroux to waive his NMC too, but I think he is still valuable and maybe needs to get different leaders around him to change the morale/chemistry of this team.
Schmidt is a good dman at a fair cap hit for his age and potential of playing with a guy like Provorov or Sanheim. Although Eriksson is a bad player, we would just have to pay him for the year and then it ends next offseason. I think that's better than having JVR and Ghost for a few more years at almost triple the cap hit. Who knows, if it's that big of an issue, PHI can flip Eriksson to a team with a ton of cap space and give them picks for this draft to do so (since it is a weak draft).
The CGY deal I level with both sides, because I kinda want Patrick to have another chance after coming back from his issues, and I really think Johnny G will sign in Philly when his contract is up regardless, so we could get him for free. In that case, maybe expose Voracek to Seattle and let Braun stay, because seriously guys, Braun is a good stay at home defenceman for his $1.8M cap hit!! (People rag him way too much)
