Nothing works better than paying guys 5 million dollars to not play for you. Also you still have Kassian making about 2.8 million more than he's worth.

Is Edmonton really that desirable location for free agents to sign in that almost all top assets in the free agency would do it, some of them with good discounts as well?

    I personally doubt it.

Also - re-sign Barrie. His playing style is absolutely made for Edmonton. That player-team relationship is one of the most symbiotic ones in the league.

Yes Edmonton is, players will look at how it worker out for Barrie. Also who is getting a discount?

At this time we don't have a need for Stalock, hence why we waived him. That could change with injuries of course, but don't see us making that deal assuming our goalies are healthy

    RNH, Goodrow, Yamamoto for instance.

Also I guess is a bit pointless to ask from a clear Oilers fan about whether their own team is worthwhile location for UFAs . I mean what kind of fan would answer "no" to this question?

I understand and agree with the choice of buyouts. The kosk one is very unfortunate to do but it seems coaching staff in my opinion is making a huge mistake riding smith as much as they do not keeping kosk sharp and burn out smith is a disaster awaiting. If kosk isn’t going to have the coaches trust going into next year then gotta cut ties I just don’t agree with coaching staff on this one.

$6.4mill in cap penalties in 2022-23... I would much rather lose some picks and prospects unloading a bad contract or 2 than try to build a cup winning roster with $6.4mill in cap penalties anchoring us down

Unload Neal in a trade at the 2022 TDL where we make an upgrade. We could make a big upgrade with that cap space

Koskinen is nowhere near as bad as people think. He's a few mill overpaid but a buyout is pretty unrealistic unless Holland finds a cheap solution in net

Turris buyout has a 773k penalty in 2022-23. I'd much rather hold onto him/bury him next season. If anything, we have more cap flexibility next season than we would have in 2022-23 as is

Koskinen isn't a buyout candidate, you're overreacting to a loss where basically nobody played well.

For us he is, we aren't trading a pick for a big cap it makes no sense for us. We aren't trading picks and rebuilding. If you trade him to a contender sure, to wings your paying to move him

Kris Russell isn't a cap dump and he doesn't have a big cap hit. Perhaps you're thinking of a different player?

Uh he's 4M this year and 1M next year. 4M this year is a lot. He's a cap dump to the red wings at the league minimum. We certainly aren't paying for him. You are barking up the wrong teams tree for that trade

$1.25M for a decent shutdown defenseman is a steal. He's not a cap dump and doesn't have a big cap hit. You're just wrong and can't admit it.

Nope the 4M for the rest of the year is a cap dump to the red wings. You just don't understand how rebuilding teams work and can't admit it. You are 100% wrong and we aren't trading picks and can sign a similar guy for free in the offseason. A playoff team sure, wings you are paying for us to take him and that's the end of the story guy. You really should listen to any press conference from yzerman and understand exactly how's he's building the team and maybe you would understand why you have no clue what your talking about. I'm sorry but you don't know the red wings at all or how they are building this team, if you did you would know just how wrong you are. Sorry pal this is a pass all day and night and there is a 0% chance you are right. I listen to every single yzerman presser and this is the exact opposite of the direction they are moving and face facts you are outmatched here with red wing knowledge and just see a team who has cap space and think they could take this cap hit and veteran dman and it works, but in reality that's so far off its not true. This is a pass and will never ever be accepted by yzerman or any red wings fans on the planet who knows anything about the team.

    TL;DR

This AGM is a 2021-22 team, meaning that in all likelihood the OP intended the moves to be made in the summertime, meaning that Russell's $4M contract is already over and finished. So your lack of basic understanding of how dates work is clouding your judgement here. Nothing in this post indicates the Russell trade happens prior to the summer.

    Grab a clue, bud.

Wings still won't do it, not giving up a draft pick during a rebuild for a type of guy we can sign for free in the offseason

That's great, trading a good shutdown guy for a 4th isn't good business, I wouldn't do it from Edmonton's perspective. I'm not arguing for the trade, I'm taking issue with your idiotic, ignorant take that Kris Russell at $1.25M is "a cap dump" and has "a big cap (hit)".

The big cap hit was for this season, I want aware it was for next season, so that part was obvious just a mistake. 1.25 isn't a big cap hit. He's a useful player for a team that's competitive for a playoff spot and a 4th isn't unreasonable for that team to pay. For the redwings who are rebuilding we wouldn't be trading a pick for this player or cap hit because of the direction of the team at this time. Hope this clears it up and you can move on happily now

Barrie chose to come to Edmonton for less money. If RNH wants to stay in Edmonton he will only get 6-6.5 and he and his wife love it here (she is from Red Deer). Tamo will most likely get a bridge deal as he has not has a great season and Goodrow will not get more than 2MM from anyone he is a 3-4 LW.

    I personally doubt it.

You should talk to actual players. I heard one player agent say that although Edmonton used to be avoided by free agents, it's one of the more desirable destinations now. Don't underestimate the power of the "McDavid/Draisaitl" pitch.

Barrie could turn this year into a Krug / Faulk-type deal (although not in Edmonton) - if that's the case, UFA's will be waiting by the phone for Holland's call.

Sure, I'd love to talk players about it. Sadly it isn't actually a realistic possibility for a random fan to do, living several thousand miles to east from NA.

We come back to what I already said once:
