Strome is worth nowhere near that. Chicago takes that and runs.

Don’t mean to sound like an a-hole, you can probably get Strome for a lot less than that, probably a low first or a very high second an additional pick and a prospect

Yikes, a new bad idea. Leafs are giving up too much for players they just don’t need.

Hawks aren't trading Strome for just a late first or a second and a additive pick or borderline NHL prospect...get real man. He just turned 24 years old, is a RFA and .7ppg player since joining the Hawks. Sorry, but no way in hell is a late first, which is a bag of magic beans, worth more then Strome.

Let me rephrase this, how many late first round center or winger picks (picks 20 to 31) over the last 10 years have produced as well as Strome by the time they turn 24? I'm willing to bet it's less then 10%, maybe less then 5%, which is exactly why fans WAY over value late 1st round picks.

That said, I'm not saying this is fair trade, but just addressing your value is assessment is off and it's not just you, even some of the analysts overvalue late 1sts. Hawks would be incredible stupid to gamble on a 10% chance they can get a better player then Strome with say the 25th pick (or worse) in the draft.

Well..... lets look at Strome's draft year,

Ilya Samsonov @ 22
Brock Boeser @ 23
Travis Konecny @ 24
Jack Roslovic @ 25
Anthony Beauvillier @ 28

Sooo thats 5 out of the late first rounders.....................the answer is 50%

Edit: sorry you said wingers or centers......so the answer is 40%

I'll give you Konecny and Boeser, but Roslovic (having 1 breakout year this year) and Beauvillier hasn't yet accomplished what Strome has on a ppg pace. So you actually have 2 forwards that you would replace Strome arguably in that draft year picked between 20 and 31 which equals a 18% chance of getting a better forward.

Still not the odds you want when you trade a bonafide good young player for a 18% chance to get a better player....again, stupid for the Hawks to accept a late 1st for Strome. The miss rate on late first round draft picks is much higher then success rate especially putting up .7ppg as a 24 year old center. My argument still stands

There were only 7 forwards taken after pick 20 so it is more than 25% even with just Boeser and Konecy

Still bad odds which is the point. I can show plenty of 1st rounds where 1 maybe 2 guys are worth their late first round picks. Bottom line, the chance of getting a 24 year old RFA center who's put up .7ppg is pretty low. If Strome was 28 years old (over the hump) then it would make sense but not for a kid that just turned 24 years old is a late 1st worth it.
