I like both deals, they make sense. I still think that the Leafs will target a 3C. Staal, Dzingel, Jenner, Iaffalo (although mostly LW) Jarnkrok etc. Engvall just in my eyes is not a 3C on a cup contender, bump him to 4C I'd say.

Sorry also I think you are giving up way to much to DET. Take out Hallander and its decent.

Take out Hallander and this trade isn't even close. The leafs don't get to upgrade their goalie situation, third pair defense, forward depth, and cap situation for Kokkonen.

You don’t want a goalie playing through injuries in the playoffs. Teams don’t go easier because the opposing goalie is hurt. Bernier is currently injured anyway so this is a moot point.


A goalie sub .9 SV% and injured isn’t what you want going into the playoffs unless you want a quick exit.

Merril and Gagner are worth no more than a fourth each. JB is worth a bit more than Freddie, that why you toss in Kokkanen (played well for Finland WJC). It would be more like SDA or Abramov or J.Anderson going to DET not Hallander.

The entire idea behind the trade was to add depth at forward and defense, while moving out Freddy's 5M caphit and still be able to have a competent goalie to share time with Soupy. If we're bandying about what b level prospect should go the other way. I'll take that as it's a good value on both sides
