Description
Apparently Hayton is not a lock for the new ARI admin. It’s gonna take some draft capital and prospects but I’m curious what gets it done. A 1st is a stretch in my eyes with the way he’s played (and been managed) but a good prospect and a pick might be enough? It’s time to turn the depth in wing prospects into depth in other areas.

Seeing what people think and getting some talk going.

Even if it’s prospect for prospect, this could be a good move. ARI was idiotic bringing him up in his D+1 year and burning that ELC. His progression in juniors has been good and he wasn’t given top minutes in his NHL stint. I don’t think he’s top 5 pick quality, but he’s got top 6 potential.

For clarity, this is a long term move. Hayton wouldn’t see NHL time this year unless the staff thought that highly of him, then why not bring him up. It’s a future for a future deal.

I think it would but I think that’d be slightly more than I’d be willing to go. I think ceilings are similar but Beckman seems like more of a certainty given he’s a year younger. I wouldn’t dismiss it out of hand.

I think that’s fair. I think you’d also find very few people that think Hayton should have gone top 10 and his development post draft leaves room for improvement. He’s still got potential but the lack of development makes him a bigger risk. Firstov was taken at 42 I believe and has shown growth in his D+1 year. I’m more or less trying to get thoughts on whether he can be a player and what you would give up to get him. He’s definitely a buy low candidate right now.

To be clear what Guerin said was he had no desire or interest in adding a rental player. I think he would be willing to make a trade at the deadline if he thought it was a trade that would make us better or if it was a player with term that fulfills a need. Just so long as it doesn't cost an absolute overpay. The farm for Eichel comes to mind.

Which if I was honest I agree for the most part on but would be fine with someone like a rental such as Danault for a playoff push if we are seriously looking at a Cup. A long term player I think Guerin would have interest in if he became available at the deadline is Hertl. Who isn't going to cost the team an arm and a leg to acquire like Eichel or Dubois for that matter.

His development has been fine up until this year. Regardless, 20 year old top 6 center prospects are never ever buy low candidates. If Arizona moves him, they're going to get something better than Beckman or Firstov back.

If he's still floundering in the AHL in 3 years like Logan Brown then you can talk about buying low.

There was a good thread on Hertl yesterday that proposes this very idea. The team looks good but I wonder if it’s cup good. If there is going to be a year to go for with with a deal like that, I think it’s in year 2/3 of the Rossi and Boldy ELC to maximize the cap with the old and young core. Not to mention the goalie will be more experienced.

And I think last night is why you don’t bet on this year or next. Not as an over reaction but just because of the gap there was between us and a cup contender. And it’s the second time we’ve looked like that against COL. Hold the course and keep stocking the cupboards.

Brown is just under a pt per game in the AHL. That’s not floundering.

I guess I don’t see your logic. You could argue that he gets hurt too often or that there might be an attitude issue we don’t see but I don’t know how a young guy proves himself more in the AHL before he needs to get a real shot in the NHL. I don’t see how that’s floundering and would love to buy low on that guy too.

You do realize it was Ottawa who demoted him for his play right? A bad Ottawa team promoted Pinto & others over brown. Ottawa refuses to call him back up.

Career AHLers have more points than him

You can’t sign a pro contract if you are in the NCAA. Therefore he could never have been called up.

They have. They’re very excited for him and they believe he will be better than Brown. That does not mean Brown can’t be an NHL player. It means the Senators believe they have somebody better than Brown. It is possible to have multiple players at the same position that can be quality NHL players. Their ability is not mutually exclusive.

He’s talking about the whole Norris beat out Brown scenario. As though there is only room for 1 young center on that team. I’ve gone more “research” into young centers than is heathy so I’ll just calmly point out false statements as they arise.

I like the offer of 2nd & Firstov, not sure AZ would do it this offseason. They would probably want a Beckman or Khusnutdinov or Khovanov?

I see Khovanov/Firstov at the same level and Beckman/Khusnutdinov slightly above. I would be hesitant to move someone from the latter since I think they are more likely to be on the roster some day.
