Please name some offers that easily beat Robertson + 1st for Rakell.

From teams that would actually do it.

Ikr lol. Rakell is a fringe 2nd liner nothing more. Ducks apparently want a 1st and a young player with NHL experience. That would be an overpay in itself imo and no teams have been willing to do that. But this is a huge overpay.

Why giving the net to a 29y/o goaltender with only 67 experience games ?
I don't understand all people who trade Andersen and give the net to Campbell. He's actually a good 2nd goalie and will stay a 2nd goalie is entire career.

Wings have no use for Maglin. He is a fringe player at best. To retain on Bernier it will cost a 3rd.

Agree.

I know he's on a crappy team, I know he had a great season 3 or 4 years ago, but it appears he's settled in to a 50ish point offensive winger.

Are teams acquiring him to be a 70 pt player if he plays with more talent, because it seems fairly foolish to have to pay a higher price for what a guy could be in a different situation.

Robertson is probably Rakell (or better) by 22/23 at the latest.

Kerfoot isn't an improvement on Iafallo even after you factor in the extra two years of term. And Iafallo doesn't play center; he's exclusively a LW.

You could just move Iafallo to line 2 LW, Rakell to line 3 C; doesn't really matter how the lineup comes out, they could get it figured out.

Iafallo - tough to play against which is what the Leafs need, UFA at end of the year so its realistic for LA to take on Kerfoot with another 2 years on his deal + picks.

Bernier went off the ice limping in the 2nd period of last night game, Not sure what his injury is yet but it's doubtful he'll be healthy by late March. He'd need to be healthy for late March early April for the 2 week quarantine period in Canada. So he'd be ready after the TDL hopefully it's not serious as we need him these next 2 weeks but it didn't look good.

Yes; I think Rakell would be a 70 pt player on a line with Tavares + Nylander, especially considering the Leafs are a much more offensive, higher-scoring team than the Ducks. Plus the cap hit is a steal at that value. Robertson could be good but could doesn't really help the Leafs for the next 2-3 years; they need someone now. It is possible that taking on Kesler's contract for the next two years could get the 1st round pick or Robertson reduced to a 2nd in that trade.

Didn't see that. If it's serious the trade could probably be done for another cheap backup; at worst just keep Hutchinson as backup.

Rakell is exclusively a winger, too.

With Athanasiou, Grundstrom and Moore looking like they're developing properly, Kerfoot is less a help than a hindrance when we're also trying to bring guys like Kaliyev forward. And he's definitely in the way at center, with Vilardi, Turcotte and Byfield coming up.

Not sure yet, Blashill said he'd know more later today but it didn't look good unfortunately he's really been playing solid for us keeping us in games.

The main idea is that there are plenty of options at centre, like Nylander as well, for example. Iafallo, Nylander, Rakell have all played centre at some point in their careers; I don't think it would be a huge issue for one of them to move back to the middle.

Kerfoot also plays the wing and could easily be flipped by the Kings next year when he is an expiring deal.

Robertson could be good in a few years.

Rakell would be better with JT and Nylander.

I see. Is this based on something factual, or could it be this is just your opinion?

Either way the price to acquire players should be based on what they are currently not what they could become in a better situation. Let's not forget he's playing over 18min/game right now. Keefe has cut JT and Nylander back to 16 min or less per night (even with Nylander on a heater lately). 2+ minutes per game less has a pretty significant impact on scoring over the course of a season.

No way I'm touching Rakell if Robertson is involved in the deal.

You said it yourself the Leafs are one of the highest scoring teams in the league, so what is the panic in acquiring immediate help upfront?

If they can re-sign Andersen that would allow them to trade Gibson, who would inevitably fetch an enormous return to help boost the rebuild. Not sure why Andersen wouldn't want to re-sign there; the Ducks have lots of cap space, he's familiar with the organization/city, and I don't think the Ducks are as far away from being a playoff team as some may have predicted before this season (based on the development of Comtois, Drysdale, Zegras, Lundestrom, etc.).

Sometimes in trades you need to take risks based on how you think the fit would be; there's a reason Anaheim's price is so high on Rakell. Rakell has shown what he can do on a good team (look back at his stats a few years ago when Anaheim was good), and has the analytics on his side as well to show that there's a good chance he would be a higher-scoring player on a stronger team.

Do the Leafs need to take that risk though??? They would like to get a an upgrade over Kerfoot in the top 6. It's not like they need a true No. 1 dman and should pay any cost to fill that hole. There is no reason to overpay for a decent 2nd liner. They'd be better off paying a 2nd + B prospect for Granlund.

Robertson + 1st is how the conversation starts for Forsberg. Not Rakell.

Robertson is the cheap seconday scoring the Leafs need for the next few years. He's the only prospect that can crack the top 9 (top 6) within the next few years. With the flat cap, he's super valuable to the Leafs.

How do you view Robertson? It's pretty well indisputable that he's a top 12 pick 2020 pick if he's born 5 days later.

Those guys don't get traded for someone coming off 3 straight 50ish point seasons.

(speaking of Forsberg - this could be Erat for Forsberg Rd. 2)

Also, he produced that season playing top minutes. Again he's not coming to the Leafs for that, he's coming to play 2nd line minutes (you don't seem to factoring that in).

Less minutes usually means less production. So any uptick in scoring rates could be offset by him losing minutes.

Yes, Gibson is a good goalie; but it doesn't make sense to keep him through this rebuild during the peak of his career. IMO they should get his value back in assets while it's at its peak since they aren't going to be contending for at least another 2-3 years.

The Ducks are about a year removed from where the Kings are, they start to compete next season, they have their franchise center, defenseman, and goalie ready.
