Description
The rumoured price on Ekholm is similar to the Muzzin deal, so I will try something similar to that.

Jets need to make the move to give Pionk an defenceman who can actually make things happen with the puck, and the Jets DESPERATELY need someone so they can play Morrissey less. Also Stanley is definitely better than Forbort, but we all know Paul will not take his handy vets out of the lineup.

Switching Copp and Perrault is also something they should consider. the 85-17-22 line was lights out, and Copp is just having it rough right now.

Nashville can do better. Niku is meh and has fallen out of favour in winnipeg and Harkins is a C prospect at this point. In general Friedman said Nashville wants a muzzin deal so 2 B prospects and a 1st. But with a potential bidding war someone may overpay

When Leafs traded for Muzzin it was for a B prospect with potential and a high valued at the time D-prospect and a 1st.

Leafs fans like to think that their trades are the standard. Like you said Alec martinez got 2 2nds. So I think Niku + vesalainen and a first is more than fair. This trade needs to happen ASAP. Jets need to play Morrissey way less. If I was coaching, and ekholm was traded for, I’d be running:

Ekholm-Pionk
Morrissey-DeMelo
Stanley-Poolman

Stanley and poolman looked awesome together, makes Maurices comments about why demelo got put with Morrissey even more off. He said “it’s a matchup issue, that’s as grey as I can make it, not everyone is 100%”. That is weird no? Cause if we look at it, he had to have been talking about poolman being less than 100% but he looked awesome tonight. Must be something else going on. I have a feeling a trade is coming.

I know Maurice won’t play Stanley over Forbort, but it would be what I’d do. Also, the forward lines need to be tweaked, top 6 maybe not that much, but bottom 6 needs to be shuffled. I honestly wouldn’t mind seeing Copp move to 4th line and switch with perreault.

Niku might be the rumour, but it doesn’t make sense for NSH to acquire players that will be exposed to Seattle.

Friedman reported the asking price for ekholm was a 1st and 2 prospects. How does that have anything to do with the leafs fans as we didn't make the price up. We didn't state anything friedman did.

Also martinez isn't as good as muzzin or ekholm which is why the price was less. Ekholm is a solid dman and way better than martinez. Basically a muzzin deal would be the starting point but there's is most likely gonna be a bidding war so probs gonna cost more

Last few games he’s struggled moving the puck a little bit. Will bounce back, but he definitely hasn’t had awful games.

apparently the only teams interested are TOR, BOS and WPG. So if we take that into account, with current prospect pools and cap space for each team it’s clear that Toronto likely falls out of the race. Toronto would ask for Max retention on him, which would likely prompt Nashville to up the asking price, I just don’t see Toronto willing to part with what it would take. Friedman says the asking price is a 1st and 2 prospects. Add 50% retention for 2 years and it likely becomes a 1st and a top prospect. Is Toronto willing to give up a package like Amirov + 1st? Ekholm is the best dman out of Martinez, muzzin and himself. If what you’re saying is accurate and a bidding war does happen, I guarantee Toronto falls out quickly. Nashville will want a lot more for retention, especially in a year where they’re being told to not take on extra money. Boston likely doesn’t have the prospects to get ekholm, unless Nashville is interested in a reclamation project like a Senyshyn. Nashville has expressed major interest in Niku, so seeing a deal play out around Niku and Vesalainen would be ideal.

Also I’m not just saying for this trade that leafs fans like to dictate the price off of their trades. I’ve seen leafs fans comparing forsberg trades to a similar return that Kapanen got and those two aren’t even close to comparable LOL.

Haven't noticed, the glaring issues are Morrissey struggling big time and DeMelo being slow as f@C%!

Not blaming Morrissey's struggles on DeMelo just saying DeMelo has sucked, honestly think they both need to be sat down for a game.

I think what Maurice was getting at was Poolman had threw the puck up the middle pretty badly, didn't lead to goals buy they weren't good so maybe think he was sending a message to Poolman and trying to settle Morrissey down by putting DeMelo next to him, personally I think Morrissey's struggles are mostly on him and have less to do with his partner, no doubt a better D partner would help though, DeMelo and Poolman are both third pair guys, decent ones but that's where they play their best cause that's what their abilities are suited for.

Forbort has been solid and steady, no way he should come out of the lineup. I've been impressed with Stanley but they both need to be in the lineup, isn't it obvious that part of the issues are the little dmen struggle to win a puck/board battle, that's not a problem for Forbort or Stanley.
If Ekholm was acquired DeMelo should be scratched imo, he's just too slow.

Honestly I'm not so sure the top 6 is really working either, if it wasn't for Ehlers the 2nd line would be totally invisible, Connor has been okay but Dubois hasn't done anything. The first line looks okay at times but really Wheeler looks really behind the play, how many 5v5 goals does the 25-55-26 line have? To me Schiefele is doing the heavy lifting on that line.

As for the bottom 6 well everyone knows I'm not much of a Lowry fan but I don't disagree swapping Copp and Perreault is probably necessary since Maurice will never let go of Lowry at 3C and since being reunited neither 9 or 17 haven't done much, Appleton on the other hand looks like he should get a shot in the top 6.

I took a second to read and think about your message and honestly I agree with all of what you said. Morrissey looks so off, it’s weird. Demelo yeah is slow, and likely should be scratched if ekholm is traded for. You’re right about the small dman losing the board battles.

I think the top 6 has been fine, not amazing, not terrible. Ehlers is carrying that line, but the 1st line has been good IMO. Why not balance lines 2&3. I know we think this way, and Maurice doesn’t but is it really that crazy to balance the lines? Just swap Connor for Appleton. Connor might be able to actually help Copp and Lowry score a few goals, while learning some defensive game. Apples 100000% deserves a chance in the top 6, like it’s not even questionable. Every other team would’ve given him a shot already. Hell I bet torts would’ve even given him a chance.

Maurice most likely was sending a message, I just took it injury wise as what you proposed just flew over my head. That makes a lot more sense. I love Stanley, he’s awesome, he’s quietly good and that’s all we need. He also has a rocket of a shot that seems to find its way through.

"Not everyone is 100%" was code for my top dman is a raging tire fire right now... 😂

The top line has been okay but it just seems like they should be producing more, Wheeler really seems to be dragging still. Have heard that Dubois maybe has a lingering injury, hopefully that's all it is. Maybe the top two lines just need some more time to find chemistry, to me they've both looked off but that might be the system as well, have you ever noticed that in the offensive zone the forwards look too spread out/far apart? I see it all the time where a Jet forward gains the offensive zone or steals the puck and he eventually loses it cause his linemates are just too far away to pass the puck off to and it's lost or turned over, wonder if it's a system issue of I'm seeing something that isn't there but I don't think I'm wrong cause I've been seeing it happen for years.. Lol

Would Connor score with Lowry and Copp? Those two just rarely ever produce when they're together, maybe if it was Perreault on the other wing they'd produce but if it's 17&9 together I have my doubts but maybe.

After seeing the Habs dmen smashing and crashing the Jets forwards the other night it made me wish the 4th line was centered by Lowry and he was flanked by a couple physical wingers who would bang, crash and wear down the other teams dmen, something similar to the Islanders fourth line.

I know they have a good record and we were excited after the third Leafs game but I'm still not buying this team just yet, maybe they just need a couple upgrades on the backend but I think there's more issues then just that though an Ekholm and/or Savard would no doubt help some.

Definitely would help to acquire Savard and ekholm. I’m not sold on the team yet either, the D is the main issue for me. Too many defensive breakdowns that will be absolutely exposed come playoffs. Teams are already doing it to us now and it’s only the regular season.

Don’t think you’re crazy about the forward spacing. I noticed it too. It’s super weird, they have almost 0 puck support on entry, maybe that’s apart of their entries, sending 2 low? Who knows, Maurice likes some weird things. The only time they ever have puck support is if they’re forced into tight space with 2 guys in proximity.

I think Connor would score with Copp and Lowry, but I almost think Jets should just balance 4 lines and roll them all night. Would be terrifying having to deal with these lines all night coming at you in waves:

Stastny-Scheifele-Wheeler
Ehlers-Dubois-Appleton
Connor-Copp-Perreault
Vesalainen-Lowry-(TDL pickup)

Hopefully Dubois is just dealing with a lingering injury, it looks like he is to me, almost looks like wheeler at the start of the year. Wheeler now looks 200x better than early this year. Still not 100% but getting there. I like the top line together a lot. You can see chemistry building with them, and they’re veterans who know how to win. I would 100% switch Appleton and Connor, drop Lowry to 4C and move perreault up to 3RW. The lines I proposed above are what I wish they’d do. If Jets could add a 4th liner with a big body who can PK, they’d be set.

Yeah its weird, their puck support is terrible yet they're not a quick on the forecheck team and not extremely physical either, I don't know what their identity is, their lack of puck support just leads to so many lost opportunities, can't just rely on the powerplay or the opposition to make a mistake to score, thing is too it's not like they're often forcing the turnovers that sometimes leads to a goal it's usually just a fumbled puck by the opposition or whatever.

Something just doesn't look right when they gain the offensive zone and that can't be blamed on a weak D core.

It's funny how like every Jets fan including Lowry fans put him at 4C but Maurice just won't do it.. Lol

The Jets look so much better when the D engage in the offensive zone, but they hardly ever do it for some reason. Defensively they play man to man and chase guys all over the place, that just leads to disaster

He’s just better suited as a 4c. Everyone knows that except for Maurice apparently.

The only player that can actually sustainably play that offensive system is Ehlers because his puck control abilities are off the charts. No one else on the team is even close.

Idk man, this team is really Jekyll and Hyde, I know they played last night but so did the Oilers, this top 9 just isn't working imo, PoMo really needs to shuffle some bodies around.
