Max value of Eichel

Description
This is the max value I would give for Eichel. I see many BUF fans demanding three 1st rounders, two top prospects and a GM:s literal soul. Be realistic. You are not giving away the reincarnation of Buddha.

Eichel is a top line center. But he is not worth the entire future of a franchise.

BTW I don't think M. Johansson and Rask have any actual value, they're just there to make the cap work.

Well they are going to have to take them because nobody has 10 million lying around in their cap space

Detroit could offer their 2021 1st + Zadina/Raymond which tops this offer and don’t have to send any cap dumps back.

“They are going to have to take them” sure, but you’ll have to pay more than, they are cap dumps.

I wouldn't say the 11th highest cap hit in the league is a bargain, but sure.

If Eichel was a UFA this summer, he’d get at least 11.5-12 mill. His best years are ahead of him.

Then they should totally go for it! Unfortunately Wild are against the cap and HAVE to send those players away if they want to get Eichel. Plus Johansson is a UFA and Rask is in 2022, so it's not like they are huge cap dumps, either.

Then you’d need to compensate the other team for taking on unwanted contracts. The rumored ask from the Rags is even more than what I offered which is more than yours. There would be a bidding war so I’d add Rossi to your trade.

A mid to late 1st in an underwhelming draft is not a blue chip asset. Boldy is great but likely tops out as a great two way 2nd line winger. Sabres are trading a top 15 player in the entire league , they need players in return that have a good chance of being top line producers, specifically centers.

If/when Eichel is made available , there will multiple teams that will have no problem “overpaying” for a superstar center on a bargain contract.

You know, I don't know where this idea that a top center prospect has to go back for Buffalo to consider it. A center prospect, sure. But it doesn't necessarily have to be top end one.

Why...

Because they are already in a prime position to draft either Mathew Beniers or Kent Johnson in this upcoming year's draft. Both of which are on par with Rossi in terms of skill and potential ceilings. Say what you want about this year's draft, but that top 15 is pretty well scouted by now, even with covid complications.

And, if they do move Eichel. They are guaranteed to be a basement team in 2022's draft, and will again most likely be in a position to draft one of Wright (Crosby/McDavid), Lambert (Mackinnon), or Savoie (Mathews/Eichel/Barkov). All of whom have floors of a Barkov.

You know what, I think they'll be just fine not getting a top center prospect back from a potential Eichel trade. But that could just be me.

As I said before, Eichel is great, but not worth the entire future of a franchise.

And by the time they're ready to compete, Eichel would leave as a UFA. Detroit could take on his deal, but Yzerman isn't stupid enough to do it.

Cost of doing business. Buffalo will be entering a rebuild again if they move Eichel, so them taking on a year of a less than ideal deal wouldn't even be a blip on their radar. Rask's $4m won't matter when you're anchored down by Okposo's $6m and Skinner's $9m.

Buffalo absolutely will lose any Eichel trade, because if they do trade him it's because their hand was forced. People keep listing all of these top assets teams can offer, but seriously, no one will offer multiple top assets (if any) because they'll need those blue chip prospects to come into the NHL and produce on their ELCs to help a team acquiring Eichel's $10m cap hit to contend. Every team that could contend with Eichel is close to the cap, plus will need to figure out how to retain their existing players that will need raises.

That’s fine, I was merely stating that you were incorrect about a team having 10M to afford him. If you don’t want to pony up then hopefully you get a franchise center through the draft or FA. I’m not sure how you’d afford him anyway with Brodin’s extension kicking in and raises due for Kaprizov/Fiala and about 7M coming off the books (Bonino/Cole).

To add to my previous comment, how does LA have any depth if they have $10m Eichel, $10m Kopitar, and $11m Doughty? They'll need their blue chip guys to come in and contribute on ELCs, they're not giving up a bunch of them.

Why? You have the center position locked down with Eichel-Larkin and just need a top pairing guy to help burden the load for Hronek and Seider. The team is flush with cap so ‘maybe they become a more desirable team with the addition of Eichel which is what attracted Hall. I don’t see how they don’t sniff the playoffs in Eichel’s contract especially with a new coach like Gallant.

You take is extremely unrealistic - no one will offer multiple top assets? Eichel is a top 10 center in his prime and on most teams would immediately become the most valuable asset. Don’t want to give up one of Rossi or JEE/fiali +. Then Eichel won’t be getting traded to the wild. It’s as simple as that.

If Eichel was traded for a 1st and Raymond , there’s a good chance Detroit would make the playoffs next season.

Bertuzzi-Eichel-mantha
?-Larkin-zadina

Would be one of the better top 6 in the league. Seider will likely have an immediate impact as well.

People on this site value potential way too much. Running Eichel & Larkin makes things a ton easier for the team. That first round pick doesn’t start producing for X years. Maybe we throw some good cash at Hamilton and then trade Hronek for a LD or see if one of the D play their offside really well. I know Seider did in Grand Rapids but having Hamilton-Seider as your top 4 RD sounds amazing. Plus a new coach like Gallant I think will really push this team to the next level.

Notice how I didn't say the Wild but left it general? Teams don't give up all their top assets that they'll need, they just don't. They may give up 1 top asset along with some complimentary prospects and/or picks, but no one is giving Kakko + Laf + Chytil + 2 1st round picks. No one is giving up Byfield + Turcotte + Vilardi + 2 1sts. No one is giving up Rossi + Addison + Boldy + picks.

You’re being an extremist lol

Two packages for the wild that can possibly get Eichel.
Rossi , Addison, beckman, and a 1st

JEE, fiala, beckman , and a 1st.

Kings :

Turcotte, viillardi , madden , and a 1st

NYR

Kakko, chytil , Schneider , and a 1st.

The perceived value on orielly wasn’t that he was a superstar center. He was seen as a high end 2C who needed a change of scenery.

You made it sound like bringing in Eichel leads to all those things, like how Hall was lured into the career purgatory that is Buffalo.

Btw, you don't get to keep Seider if you're acquiring Eichel. Don't blame me, you made up the rules where you're giving up all your top prospects.

I made an offer that beat OP’s offer and without salary going back to Buffalo which OP said no one could do. If you care to reread the ACGM you’d see it was 2021 1st (top 5 pick) + Raymond/Zadina so I’m not sure what rules you think I made up. So in this scenario I said I’d easily pull the trigger as Raymond/Zadina > Boldy and the 2021 1st > Minnesota’s spare parts. I also didn’t imply getting Eichel makes the other things happen if you read my statement which is pretty clear. I said maybe it makes Detroit a move attractive FA destination but either way we have ample cash & good prospects so we can improve. If Yzerman wants to build through the draft he can do that or if this is what he took to get Eichel he can do that also. You’re the one making it sound like you can only build a contender slowly through the draft.
