    This makes the team worse. Just let Seattle pick Jensen. Orlov is better that Hanifin and Eller can’t be a 2c.... Mcmichael isn’t nhl ready for another year imo

    Interesting... Maybe his good year is bc of the shat north division bc he wasn’t good last year or the year before that. Still wouldn’t trade a 1b center for an above average D man...

    I agree. Why give up Orlov then give up your 2c for a downgraded D man. Why not keep Orlov and Kuzy and this team is way better 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Hanifin is very good this year. I saw your comment above... he just progressed and has a good partner now. I like Kuzy but he’s having a god awful year, what’s up with that?

    God awful year? This is why this site is a clown show. People complain that he’s an incomplete player and he sucks at defense. THEN he works on his defensive game and all those numbers are way higher than last year and now he’s having a godawful year lol. Hanifin is having a “god awful” yeah as well if you only look at the box score lol. 5 points I believe Jensen is has more offensive production. Either way caps would never trade Kuzy for Hanifin kid is average at best.

    Seattle isn’t picking Jensen. They’re picking Orlov, Oshie, or Vanecek depending on who’s protected. If you just protect our top guys at every position:

    Ovechkin
    Backstrom
    Wilson
    Kuznetsov
    Vrana
    Oshie
    Eller

    Carlson
    Orlov
    Jensen

    Samsonov

    Vanecek is the easy pick unless they really want Schultz which wouldn’t be the end of the world.

    It’s not a question of choosing to expose one goalie. You can only protect one goalie. It’s not easily avoided at all. You can’t avoid exposing Vanecek if you wanna keep Samsonov

    no you need to have 2 goalie to pick from... and you protect 1 of the 2...thats my understanding of the rules. Also what universe do the Capitals protect Jensen over Dillon

    We need to keep our top four intact. Dillon, Carlson, Orlov and Schultz have all been excellent players for us. As good as Jensen has been lately, he's the guy that would makes the most sense to let Seattle have. He's easily replaceable (hopefully we resign TVR for that) and provides some cap relief.

    I’m not trying to be a dick here, but you’re just interpreting the rules wrong. The caps can only protect one goalie. You can’t choose to only expose one. Copley and Vanecek will both be eligible for selection in the expansion draft.

    You protect Jensen over Dillon because Jensen is cheaper, faster, younger, and more versatile than Dillon. Dillon is an average shutdown defenseman, and he’s really great at playing his role, but the fact of the matter is the caps have a logjam at the LD position and we need RD, which Jensen is one. It’s a no brainer to protect Jensen over Dillon and if we lose Jensen in expansion, he’s going to flourish in a top 4 role in Seattle. We’re already seeing him grow with the caps. He’s the smoothest skater on the team and he’s fantastic at both ends of the ice.

    I was super sour on Jensen before the playoffs, but he’s been amazing since then. Due to his contract and his development, it would be a mistake to let him go. Out of the top 4, Dillon is the most easily replaceable and I think Schultz won’t be a huge loss if he goes since we just picked him up in free agency.

    Honestly the whole point of this post was just to do something different and generate some discussion but apparently people don’t like that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    There's nothing wrong with a new idea, it's just that it's not an idea that I personally think is wise, so we had a discussion about it. I personally think that in our cap crunch, spending $2.5M on a third pairing defenseman could be better used elsewhere, especially given our defensive depth and strength of our top four.
