On the defense? Even left side, I will take Grzelcyk 100 times before him. Lauzon and Zboril are 3rd pair D but Gardiner isn't good defensively and he's overpaid.

Again, Gardiner has been good, and better than Zboril and Lauzon. The only real issue is his defense, which is offset by the fact that a more offensive minded defenseman in Gardiner is playing with McAvoy. It's like his own little discount Torey Krug

Again, I'm not willing to take a risk based on a 20-game sample size. There are other options available. Krug was also better defensively and ideally, you replace him with a two-way defenseman.

It's a huge maybe, but maybe Gardiner could be a poor man's Krug for that Bruins team.

Maybe they should swap Gardiner and Moore 1-on-1. Term is similar. BOS makes a D upgrade and CAR saves some money. Dunno if it works.

I was going to say the same - this is basically duplication of Moore in a good with the puck D signed for term and money unlikely to be in your top 6 for most of the contract.

If this is the trade, I make it. Cassidy doesn’t play Moore anyway, even if he is a solid depth guy. And if Gardiner doesn’t work out this season, Seattle gets a swing at him anyway.

Straight up claim, I don’t like the value. Offset by Moore, I’m ok with it.

The only real issue is his defense? HE'S A DEFENSEMAN. Nothing OFFSETS that.

Offensive defenseman? I mean Brusn, Rielly, Carlson and Doughty make a living off of being bad defensively but gods offensively lol
