Longer term RD fix

Description
Given that Hamilton is a really long shot, perhaps we could pluck a player from Jersey that is right in their prime and will be a UFA by the time they contend again. Would consider more established players but assumed that expansion exempt picks and prospects would be preferred. Perfetti is off limits.

With Smith and Bahl I'm assuming they don't want LD and with Hughes/Hischier they are already set for top 6 C as well.

Essentially trading 2 - 1sts (Vesalainen & 2021 1st), a 2nd (Lundmark - RHD) and a late pick that is really rising (Chisholm). All expansion draft exempt.

Jets likely also lose DeMelo in the expansion draft.

Making playoffs by squeaking in and contending for the cup are two completely different things haha. I think devils might squeak in before then, but players will be coming into their own around 2024.

Jets aren't very close here though.
Without Perfetti, or at least Heinola+, NJD isn't interested.

Why would you want another Smith type of LDman? (Heinola)

Severson is a fine player, but he doesn't warrant that much in return.

We don't. Nor do we need Perfetti.
But value is way off.

I mean, facts are facts. You guys aren't close to being contenders and won't be for a few more years at which point Severson will be a 28 year old UFA. Or you supercharge the rebuild and add more assests to supplement the young core.

We will not be trading Perfetti which is why I specifically put that in the write up. Severson is good, he's not going to get you Perfetti.

Giving 2 - 1sts + 1 - 2nd + a rising prospect is way off?

Usually when I do these I try to overcompensate for what I think is fair so that Jets fans are uncomfortable with the return. Is it that you just don't value the prospects I picked? I've included 3 of the top 10 prospects in the organization and then added another 1st round pick.

https://thehockeywriters.com/winnipeg-jets-top-10-prospects-2020-21/

I could give you Jansen Harkins instead for 1 of those pieces, but he does require protection in the expansion draft so I thought he wouldn't be ideal.

I do agree. I just wasn't sure what to do about that. I could include DeMelo/Poolman to potentially compensate, but I thought the point would be to get as bad as possible to get high draft picks and then build coming out of the expansion draft. Maybe trade for some of Seattle's excess RHD?

Maybe draft a RHD in Brandt Clarke this year to help out when Hischier and Hughes start entering their prime? Overpay for Hamilton as a UFA?

With Smith and Bahl you're looking good on the left side it's about finding RD that will fit your window. I think Severson may not be around for it, but maybe he will?

Severson is playing like a #1 dman this year which would be hard to replace. Clarke is the only good RHD this year and there's a chance Devils don't get him. Better not risk it. Better off getting a LHD which there are 3-4 of. I wouldn't want to overpay Hamilton in free agency and again there is a chance he stays. Severson is still relatively young at the age of 26 and has great chemistry with Smith. It would be an overpayment if any team were to get him. If Laine were still in Winnipeg, I wouldn't mind a trade revolving Severson and Laine
