Description
It's time lads. It's been a fun couple of years but we're toast.

I'm basing this mostly on trade proposals I've seen from fans of other teams on this site. Some are a bit modified but similar nonetheless.

We aren't trading Wolf. He is one of the only goalies Flames have drafted that seems like he has a chance IMO

Because you don’t want Hertl or because of value? Just curious.

What’s the real killer that trade for you? (Assuming the devils are bette than bottom 10 this year)

First off, you're not paying Hertl 2.8 million to play somewhere else.

Second, if I'm Doug Wilson, I would want something like what Joe Sakic got for Matt Duchene back in 2017.

But everything is made harder by the fact that you can only trade Hertl to 3 different teams.

Whether Toronto is one of them remains to be seen.

12 out of 20 starters make $925k or less and somehow you are only $11m under the cap. That's wild.

I agree with you on the point that Hertl’s contract clause doesn’t help with this value but of course the theoretical assumption here is that Toronto is one of those teams.

And yes the Duchene deal was great for Sakic but I think what’s here fits the Sharks more organizationally even if it isn’t a total parallel.

Not sure I get what point you’re making about the retention though

We are the second worst team this year (behind the Sabres). That means were guaranteed a top 5 pick and we could draft a top 2/top 4 defensemen. I don't see the Devils getting much plus adding Foote and Walsh who both look great in the AHL wouldn't be ideal. Walsh has the potential to be a top 4 defenseman and Foote has the potential to be a top 6 player.

The point I'm trying to make about retaining on Hertl is that he'll be a ppg player on a good team and will become a fan favourite instantly. Guaranteed.

For such a luxury, teams that are trading for Hertl should be paying the rest of his contract out in full, not forcing the sharks to retain at 50%.

Well said. All valid points. My bad in thinking the devils were better than they actually are the intention wasn’t a top-5 pick lol.

Maybe if I downgraded that first to this or next years 2nd rounder?

Right but if you’re the Sharks and you’re rebuilding (like in this scenario) you can get more for Hertl half retained by giving other teams some cap relief. If this was a hockey trade rather thank a tank attempt I’d agree, but it’s a win-win if SJ retains.

We don't have RHD depth in pipeline.
Its Severson, Walsh, Case McCarthy...and that is it.
Walsh hard to part with.

(I'm still confident our 1st will be the 32nd pick)

because Niemelä looks like a steal of a pick in 4th. Amirov really impressed me at WJC was one of if not the best forward for russia. he looks like a complete 2 way beast.

A second and a third round pick for a retained Ryan Donato? ( Jacob Middleton has zero to non value). Thats insane, soon to be 25 years old, struggling winger with 9 points in 21 games this year. Is he even contributing without the puck? Didnt San Jose pay a third rounder for him in the offseason? No from the Islanders.

Not sure if it’s glitching or something but it’s a 2nd and a 7th, not a 3rd. Don’t disagree about Middleton just wanted to move a contract.

He actually has been better than his stats would suggest, but the Sharks could move on from him in a rebuild scenario. I think he could be a good middle-6 addition to a team trying to contend if I’m honest.

Also the only reason why the Sharks got him for a 3rd was because they also took on Dubnyk lowering Donato’s trade value. Minny would hav asked for a 2nd or 3rd+ if not for Dubnyk’s involvement.

Change the Isles picks to a 3rd and 5th and you have a deal. Not giving up a 2nd for Donato.
