not yet. His contract structure is brutal with a late bonus so it spreads out a large sum over a long time. Would do that after this season. Maybe he can pull a Seabrook/Boychuk?

I think colorado would take that but they might need to send over a little more caphit to make it work. Pateryn is a UFA and most of his salary would have been paid at the deadline just need the cap hit would need to be moved

Agree, but I'll add that they may just ask SJ to take Compher or Donskoi instead of Jost.

my line of thinking was if they don't want one of them, the cap should still work with them retaining half this year. Hertl at 2.86 or whatever it would be is an unreal deal. If we run into issues next year i think we'd just move compher for a pick which isn't bad either.

does losing Timmins screw with COL much? I feel like he would be needed assuming they lose a good dman from seattle?

    In my opinion he's expendable.
I think next year Helleson or Barron can play just as well as he is this year. Macdonald has been a pleasant surprise for 7th D this season as well. The only thing it hurts this season is with makar and johnson out we lack RHD.

Would getting a top 6C/LW be enough to risk that? or play someone on their off hand?

Girard is playing on the right and doing well. The problem at the moment is that Colorado is missing Makar, Byram, and Johnson. If they all come back the losing Timmins is probably ok. Not great timing, but they could deal with it. Before a couple guys return it will be super rough though.

I personally don't want to move Timmins at all, but it's worth it for a legit 2C.

Ideally both of those guys would be back at the deadline when this deal is odne so it should be fine, graves and toews have both played their off hand this year and been fine so i think colorado would be able to do this without much issue for it

would the Avs play Hertl at 2C and play Naz at 3C and have a crazy deep lineup. Or make Hertl a second line winger and move Saad or Burakovsky down to the third?

I'd probily have him 2C but the lines can easily change every other game if it's not working. Plus in this scenario we'd still have compher maybe a burky compher saad line could get him going as well

You paid for 4 yrs of Donskoi, you get 4 yrs of Donskoi. No way SJ would take him back in a Hertl deal. colorado will be attaching a nice pick to him in year 4 to move that deal when you need the cap space.
