What I think it would take for Eichel to work in Colorado from cap perspective

Description

Too many aren't considering the cap enough with the Eichel to Colorado trades. Obviously I would love to have a Mack/Jack combo, but basically it would take the following in order to make it work and still have good players around Eichel:

-All of Compher, Donskoi, and Graves need to go (maybe Kadri, but he has trade protection, which makes it a little tougher)
-Makar needs to take a bridge
-Landeskog and Grubauer need to take very reasonable deals
-The Avs cannot include Newhook, as they need him in order to fill the lineup
-Based on the above, the Sabres would have to accept a trade that does not include Newhook, which I doubt they do
-Unless it happens after the expansion draft, Johnson needs to waive his NMC
-Avs need to find a bargain LD (note that Chara is not a serious plug here, but it made me chuckle)

It's really tough. I guess this kinda works, but it's a ton of dominos falling neatly in order to get there. And more tough decisions would be necessary in the future. Filling the roster without draft picks is tough too.

If Eichel goes to COL (which he won't), Newhook would have to be going back to BUF. He would be redundant in COL at that point and would be much more valuable to BUF who just lost their top center. Cozens - Newhook would be their future

I think that’s a pretty good offer for Eichel. I like Kaut more than newhook, but I wonder if the Sabres would want the center instead.

that was my point about adding eichel, you have to move out as much money as you take in with him. and with how grubauer is playing, I think he could maybe even get 6m, closer to what Markstrom got in UFA.

I think that landeskog contract is about 1m too low and bridging Makar is a bad idea, its going to hurt the team really bad down the line, you try to get the long term deal done now.

I think its just too convenient for 2 of the biggest UFAs to both take money off their deals. Just the Makar thing....making him take a bridge is going to hurt down the line, to the point you major contracts to deal with in Mack 2 years down the line, then Makar again, then Rantanen....at that point the team will be pretty much dismantled to keep those guys

Try to get the makar deal done now so you dont have to rip apart the team every offseason bc you have 10m in eichel that you reallydont need bc if you believe in newhook, whats the point.
If you dont believe in newhook then thats a different story

I think you’re probably the only person on the planet who likes Kaut over Newhook. Sabres would definitely want him, Byram is obviously elite but they have Dahlin, and a high end 1-2 punch at C of Cozens+Newhook would be better long term than a high end 1-2 punch at LD

The problem of position and value. We cannot trade Eichel for Newhook and the late firsts as a base, but we also need to return a center like Newhook.

Dahlin is regressing under Kruger. Ralph doesnt let him get active in the play. Housely let dalhin do his own thing and that is where he shined

Makar doing a long-term deal for $8.5-9M this off-season would be huge for the Avs but it's going to be up to him and his agent. I do wonder if all these little injuries he's had might push him to take the long-term deal sooner rather than later. I mean, if he wants to gamble and bet on himself being in the top three in Norris voting and/or winning a Cup within the next few years, his camp could just ask for a bridge, wait for the cap to go up and then ask for $11-12M. I think we're all more than a little interested in seeing what happens with Landy, Makar and Gru's contracts.

I believe in Newhook, but few are as good as Eichel.

That's beside the point though. You should love this post because the whole point of it is that Eichel is a bridge too far. It's basically illustrating what you reply on every Eichel to Colorado post.
