It is definitely a lot better. I will admit i have blinders on for Fil, he is my favorite player and I don't see them making that trade unless they get as close to a sure thing coming back. but this is a very good offer they would have to consider.

I still don’t see it. You may call it blinders, but I don’t see how that gets both players.

Ghost has no value other than a cap dump here, so you can’t say he has much to add to the trade. He could easily get selected by SEA too

Frost, 1st is probably Ekholm’s value with a bit of retention (though it sounds like you may disagree there). I’ve seen variations of a similar trade in multiple posts here as well as a few articles in the media, so I don’t think it’s that crazy to suggest.

And Forsberg is easily worth more than Zamula and Lindblom

Forsberg is only 26.

You’re not going to get Forsberg with a middle 6 winger and a top 4 potential D prospect. It’s not enough.

Agreed. If you put Forsberg with a top C he's gonna score 40-50 goals (normal season)

I can easily see why NSH fans might not like this, but this is actually all around pretty fair value IMO.

-I would call a 1st and Zamula fair value for Ekholm. The 1st is a given and Zamula is almost certainly going to be a pretty decent NHLer on the blue line. For a rental in Ekholm (who's a 2/3 defenseman on most teams) that NSH probably wouldn't be able to protect if they kept him, this seems fair.

-If you're looking to rebuild and get value for expiring assets, Lindblom+Frost is a very good return for Forsberg IMO. Both RFAs, both young, both have a lot of upside. Lindblom was on pace for ~30 goals before his diagnosis and Frost would become the best Forward prospect in NSH system/would slide in immediately at 3C.

-Ghost would be moved for Cap purposes. While he isn't great, he is still a decent player and would be able to play in Nashvilles top-4

Maybe add a 3rd and a guy like Twarynski from Philly, but I think this is good

Which is one reason I don't want Nashville to move him. Find him a center to play with that can open the ice even more for him and he would be deadly.

As for your take on Ghost, I think you are off. He isn't a pure cap dump and in the flat cap era you MUST take cap back in a deal. Could he be taken by SEA? Ya he could but so could Ekholm so that is a moot point.

He has scored 30 goals twice and that was 4 years ago. Never topped 33...how does he all of a sudden become a 40-50 goal scorer?

That's the point -- part of trading Ekholm is to get flexibility with the SEA expansion draft. And yes, taking on Ghost for a rebuilding team doesn't make a whole lot of sense. There are other ways to take on salary. For NSH, at this moment, Ghost holds no value -- probably negative value actually -- with the direction they would be going if they trade both Ekholm + Forsberg. Gustafsson would make a lot more sense for NSH.

But if you look at his goals over the past 4 season over an 82 game schedule -- he was on pace for 32, 36, 27, and this season on pace for about 36. So if your argument was that he can't stay healthy to score 30+ goals then I would probably agree with you to an extent. But he's been on pace for 30+ goals for basically his entire career.

On pace and actual goals aren't the same. If you miss time, you aren't valuable to your team during that time . And arguing Ghost vs Gus is semantics and you were worried about Ghost being taken by SEA well how is Gus different when he is a UFA?

Just because a guy gets injured doesn't mean he's not an X goal scorer anymore. Does Stamkos being injured take away that he's a 40+ goal scorer? No, it just means he was injured. He's still that player. Forsberg still gives about a 35 goal pace nearly every season. Injuries suck and can lower the value of players, I'm not disagreeing with you there. But Forsberg is a 30+ goal scorer -- that's just the way it is.

They wouldn't really want either player -- they're both cap dumps -- but Gus being on an expiring contract is more appealing than a guy signed long term.

Like I said, NSH would view either player as having value in the deal. You said that Ghost would have value, and I ran with that premise by saying that if that were the case then NSH wouldn't want him to be selected by SEA which would further complicate their expansion draft plans. So if NSH did want Ghost (which they wouldn't), they could ultimately lose him to SEA which would make the trade that much worse from that perspective. In reality, Ghost is a cap dump that holds little to no value for NSH.

Ultimately a 1 year cap dump is more appealing than the multi-year cap dump.

So you are fine getting a 1 year cap dump of Gus but not Ghost who is signed to multiple years even if SEA takes him and you don't have the contract? You are also arguing to get a lesser value player because of this. That doesn't make any sense.

Any team is going to want the more valuable player in the trade whether they might lose him or not. Maybe they flip him and get a pick out of it.

Maybe, maybe not. It is impossible to predict the future but we know what's happened in the past. Claiming a guy WILL be a 40-50 goal scorer on a new team is a reach. I mean, look at Taylor Hall. Got put with an elite C in Eichel, definitely not scoring 40-50

He's played 15 games for you...

He also has 9 points in those games. A rental defenseman for a team looking for depth on the blueline.

In contrast, Ghost has played 14 games and has 4 points over that time. Signed for 2 more seasons at $4.5m in a flat cap world.

For sure, but I watched Forsberg play over the last how many seasons and the guy's legit awesome. He played with C's like Johansson, Duchene, Turris and Bonino...all guys that took huge dips when playing in Nashville. Im not saying he'd score 40-50 with Giroux, but trade him to a team with an elite C and I think he gets pretty close 40-50.
Hall and Eichel isnt really a great comparison. Something is up in BUF, they cant seem to find a winger to play with Eichel

Considering his average pace for an 82 game season is around 35 goals, I don't think 40-50 is out of the question at all.

Pace, pace, pace...pace means nothing, it's how many tangible goals get put in the net that counts.
