It's extremely rare for players to formally retire before their contract expires.

99% percent of guys just go on the IR and wait, or play to the end.

Luongo and Buff are the only retirement examples I can think of.

(And Buff actually filed a grievance and tried to get paid on LTIR).

Also, Weber's salary is fairly irrelevant if you're a Montreal fan.

They can spend every penny Bergevin wants to spend.

I think they're in the same tier as well.

But to be honest:

Suzuki is down in Kotkaniemi's tier.
Kotkaniemi is not up in Suzuki's tier.

They both seem to have 2nd line (50-60 point) ceilings.
