I think SJS would've been a more competitive squad without Karlsson and his $11.5m cap hit -- they probably would've been able to put that money to better use and field a team that wouldn't have gotten the 3OA pick (Stutzle). But it has definitely turned out well for OTT, that's for sure.

They'd also have Mads Søgaard and Leevi Merilainen. Sens used the 2nd they got in 2019 to move up and take Mads Søgaard, and the 3rd they got for Dylan DeMelo was used to select Leevi Merilainen

The performance the Sharks have gotten out of EK is arguably the worst case possible.

EK's last 5 seasons with OTT were 82, 82, 82, 77, and 71 games played. In the last the seasons, he hasn't gone over 56 games played.
His last season in OTT he had 9 goals. In just this season and that last two, EK has had 10 goals total.

It's been a really weird result for a great player.

I don't think the Sharks would of had that 3rd overall pick if they didn't trade for EK.

I really hope he turns it around. I'm also hoping (and so far so good) that the players going to OTT produce and play well. This, despite the fact that some of the Sens fans are cancer on this website and were actively hoping for injuries on the Sharks or trying to make things even worse by suggesting bad trades for the Sharks.

EK has never been the same after his injuries.... That was a good trade for Wilson.... just stupid luck

It will always boggle my mind how much hinged on SJs insane allegiance to ageing Martin Jones I mean we're talking Ridly Greig or Corson Ceulemans going back the other way if SJ just replaced MJ with a James Reimer level goalie and replaced some depth

IIRC that's how the pick conditions worked

Either way that effectively sums up the situation

But no they had to do stuff like that 2019 presser:

"Our locker room believes in Martin and... " 🙄

Idk I mean he was still incredibly good the first two years (8th among all D by points per game etc.) and I don't recall them being good years for mid level FAs

    Splitting hairs here in ways

    😕
