IMO, it's a mid tier team. Too bad to be good, but too good to be bad.

1-You forgot Lehkonen, he's more likely to be re-signed than Armia
2-I like Iafallo, but paying him AND Armia at that price means 7m$ tied up in the bottom six. That money should be spent elsewhere, RNH per example.
3-That's also quite expensive for Kotkaniemi, I'd prefer 3m$x2 tbh, or at that price an extra year.

This is what bothers me with this team. Once they're bad, they do everything they can to bounce back the year after which means that we always draft 15-20. We should have committed to sucking from 2017-2020. Look at Ottawa, a few painful years but such a bright future.

The hope is that Suzuki is a real deal 1c and KK is not far behind

Agreed. Reminds me very much of the many, many years of Leafs medicority:
-Go on a run at some point
-Finish 8th or 9th in the conference
-Draft outside of the top 12.
-Put too much stock in performance during good run, not enough into bad run, resign veteran players.
-Give up young assets for veterans.
-Rinse and repeat for following season.

That's a very dangerous game to play.

Thing is, that's what happens when you're the two biggest hockey markets out there. It's hard to commit to a rebuild where everything revolves around hockey, everyone breathes hockey and everyone writes about hockey. The typical fan only wants wins and cups and doesn't undertand the cycles you need to go through in order to win.

Is it though? KK looks like a 2c right now and Suzuki a high-end 2c so by next season it should be fine.

Yeah, and I don't disagree that they could both end up being good, I just find it difficult to pin my hopes on a team that's banking for progression from all of it's young guys, and hoping that guys like Petry, Weber, etc. don't regress.

Honestly, I think the Habs are a fun team that are better than their record in then past 6 games, and worse than their record from the first 10. Something in the middle. I had them as 4th in the division, fighting for the wildcard spot in my preseason predictions, and I think it's still a pretty safe bet.
