Imagine if Habs actually landed a 1C in Aho. Would’ve been a huge get

I feel like offer sheets only work if you offer stupid money. Montreal just handed Aho back to the Canes on a silver platter tears of joy

Habs fans when they're winning: "All of our players are the best players! We're the best team in the NHL!"
Habs fans when they're losing: "Yeah, but if we had Carolina's players, our young guys would look better..."

Sorry, not meant to be a d1ck comment, but it just seems like this is how some of these reactions are coming off.

You say that but in reality ownership wasnt happy paying signing bonuses and wasnt willing to give Aho over 8 million when they started negotiations. I get it was an easy match from a fans perspective but the ramifications were felt through the organization with lay offs, low ball offers for the executives and general cheapness being distributed throughout the franchise.

I think the whole argument of this tweet was that Suzuki and necas are comparable. You can prefer one over the other and there are valid arguments for both. The issue is, the media (especially Canadian) praises Suzuki like he’s this future elite C and no one really talks about Necas. Makes sense because Habs are obviously a way bigger juggernaut of a franchise than CAR, but he’s still putting it out there

All of these things, yet they continue to have an ability to put a solid product on the ice, in a small market, with a very competent management group and coaching staff.

I don't know, I wouldn't attribute the any of those things that you've put above as "fall-out" from the Aho contract. It's an owner who wants to put a successful team on the ice, but also doesn't want to lose money in a small market. C'est la vie.

100%. I feel like people get a bit worn out listening to Canadian media hype up every single Leaf or Habs prospect/draft pick/no name signing as if they're all the next GOAT. It's not a huge deal, because 99% of them get over-hyped, and it's cool that it garners a deeper level of interest for many fans of those Canadian teams.

This thread alone shows the hype of Canadian media vs. non-Canadian. Like, Necas was 12th OA in 2017, Suzuki was 13th, yet, aside from speaking with Canes fans, we never hear about Necas, while Suzuki is hyped up to be god-like.

Maybe they're both going to be pretty good?

Well, Necas is a year older and Suzuki played most of his first season playing RW on the fourth line with Nate Thompson.

Then got moved up at the end of the season and in the playoffs.

Otherwise, his progession this year is interresting. Playing top 6 minutes and given some defensive missions. I think we should wait before making a comparison. He has been playing with great players for 18 of these 55 games.

He went straight from the OHL to the show. Necas has spent some time in the AHL to adjust. I believe on the long term, Suzuki will be the better player.

When did 8 months become a year?

There is a fair argument for both players as I pointed out. That’s why I said “Id rather have necas”.

Me, personally. Because there is a fair argument for both sides

They were drafted 12OA and 13OA in the same draft and basically broke in at the same time. I don’t see any reason to bring age into it or seasons or whatever.

Well, he played 64 games in the AHL before joining the Canes right? and before that he played against men in the Czech league, right? Suzuki went straight from the OHL (a weaker league than the AHL and the Czech league), therefore if you take both these's player's charts and compared them without taking into account that Suzuki did not have 64 games to play in the AHL to adjust is play level... it is normal that his early stats will bring his current stats down.

They are both good. no doubt about that. I just feel like Suzuki's chart counting his earlier game, are not presenting an accurate picture of Suzuki's talent. Necas played pro longer than Suzuki, even if not in the show per say.

In other words, If Suzuki would have played an entire season in the AHL before making the habs roster, he would probably have similar or better numbers than Necas.

the issue is that ur saying this is for granted. this is basically saying all foreign prospects are more ready for the NHL and in some cases that's true but really it wouldn't make much of a difference. They have a similar amount of games played and you cannot assume it is a guarantee that he would be better if he spent a year in the AHL. all I'm saying is is that they are similar players and given the situation necas is better.

Rigth now maybe... but they are not at the same phase of their development. Necas is a full year of development in pro hockey ahead of Suzuki. That accounts for somethings... especially the defensive aspect of the game.
