Just way to early to tell - Tampa could be a much different contractual team by then.

Johnson, McDonagh, Palat, Killer all could be gone or traded etc Stamkos could be injured or retired etc

he probably doesnt sign one to begin with

Montreal tried to present him with an offer sheet last time and he flat out refused to entertain one. I would say hes bought into Tampa Bay and making it work there, if not Tampa would probably trade him for a return of players that can help them fill the void.

His QO is 9.5, TB is planning on paying him big money. Offer sheets just don’t make sense.

Perfect centre for Minnesota, but Tampa matches it easily. Palat comes off the books the same year as Point and Killeen would only have 1 year left which would be a highly moveable contract to open up more than enough space to re-sign Point

Qualifying offers don't mean much. They're only a 1 year term, if Point wanted longer term a deal of $9M x 6 years makes a ton more sense than a $9.5M qualifying offer

Not entirely sure of Tampa’s Cap situation but taking a quick look it looks like they have 12 mill that off season available with only 10 players signed. Even if Johnson goes to Seattle, it’s still only 17 mill with 9 players signed. Not a ton of cap space I think.

My point is they are planning on paying him is money. He’s gonna get at least $10M X 6 years from Tampa so I just don’t see what this would do other than save Tampa money.

again, Killorn is an easily moveable contract at that time. So add another $4.5M to that cap space.$21.5M isn't a bad start. Cernak is also an easy move that off-season if need be. There's another $3M of cap space.

So many people on here use the excuse of cap space as a reason why a team isn't gonna sign one of their star players if an offer sheet gets thrown out, but every time they're wrong. Teams find a way to keep their best players. Tampa found a way to keep not 1, but 3 of them this season. They'll figure it out long before that off-season even starts.

... and that's what people said about Kucherov. & Stamkos. & Vasilevskiy. .. Is Point better than all 3 of them? Certainly not. Could argue he's better than Stamkos, but Stamkos is a pure goal scorer and goal scorer's get paid more all the time. None of those players make over $9.5M AAV, mainly due to the tax situation in Tampa. I don't see Point getting more than $9.5M AAV because of that.

Also, I'm pretty sure his QO is actually $9M, not $9.5m as you said. His base salary for that season is $9M and a team is only required to offer him 100% of that, not anything more.

That’s fair. I think the thing with offer sheets though is that everybody wants them to be used for the sexy players but they are designed to get the fringey guys a bigger pay day. Aho, Point, and Petterson are all gonna get their money but no team can put forward an offer sheet that would be accepted because of the cap. Take a guy like Hartman in MIN. Is he worth 2 mil with term to them? Probably, but he could be worth 3 mil with term to somebody else and MIN wouldn’t do that. If Tampa is forced to pay Point 10 mil instead of 9 mil, it’s not even a question of whether they do it.

Could very well be. At the end of the day he’s getting more than 9.5 in cash with his next deal.

So...what happened to Fiala in this? He will 100% be extended long term or traded for a bundle of assets by 2022-23, but instead you just left him off completely.
