TSN Trade Bait

Description
Adding some pieces that can help the Sens transition to a competitive team long term. The assumption is that pending UFAs are extended before trading. I see a stay-at-home right dman and a right winger as priorities.
Transactions
1.
OTT
  1. Savard, David
Détails additionnels:
Solid, stay-at-home dman who would be a perfect compliment in our top 4. Possible great pairing dman with Chabot or Brannstrom.
CBJ
  1. Brown, Logan
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2022 (TBL)
2.
OTT
  1. Virtanen, Jake
Détails additionnels:
We don't have a Heinen-type player with NHL experience to offer up. Abramov scored 41 pts in 51 AHL games last year and will be an NHL player, but will get lost in the Sens depth chart.
VAN
  1. Abramov, Vitaly

I think both of these deals make sense for both teams.

I don’t see Columbus taking that for Savard and I think there will be better offers for him. The 2nd is 2022 which is a deeper draft, but it’s Tampa’s which is a good chance it’s closer to 60th in the draft and, sorry but, Brown is looking like a bust at this point, even Mittelstadt is more of a producer at this point and they’re the same age.

Love that trade with Van.

Virtanen was rushed into the NHL waaay too soon and was also the 'hometown kid' so there was a ton of pressure to produce. Change of scenery will do him some good

If Savard is moved, It's to a contender not a Non-Playoff team like Ottawa.

You might be right. This is all about a left winger vs. a right winger. I think we're thinner on the RW and fear Abramov gets lost in the Sens' LW depth chart - Tkachuk, Stutzle (for now), Formenton, Brown, Paul. We have Batherson and Dadanov on the right side for now, but I'm not a big fan of RW prospects long term. Am I missing someone on the right side?

i dont think we need a RW either tho, id rather just have watson to be honest. Hed be our 5th string RW. If were gong for a RW it should be a top 6 one, we have enough depth guys

Who says that pending UFAs must go to a contender. In my description I say that pending UFAs will be extended as part of any deal. Maybe someone ponies up a 1st for him and he goes there. If not, a prospect who should be NHL ready next year, and a 2nd isn't a bad return for the Jackets. I don't think Kekalainen blocks calls from non-playoff GMs.

These deals don't make any sense for Ottawa.

Savard is a rental, and he's not a piece that makes any sense for the Sens long term. He's too old to make sense as a long time piece for Ottawa, and as long as Ottawa still has Zaitsev's deal there's just no room. Zub will likely get more of a top 4 role going forward from this year, and Ottawa has Jacob Bernard-Docker who should be ready for regular NHL action once he turns pro.

Also Virtanen is just not good enough to make any sense for Ottawa. He's not better than Batherson-Dadonov-C.Brown on the right side, and he's shown throughout his career he isn't committed enough to be an effective player in a 4th line role. I probably wouldn't claim him on Waivers, let alone give up quality assets for him.

Connor Brown is a Right Winger, not a leftie. Also while Virtanen might be better than Watson, he's shown throughout his career he isn't an effective 4th liner. I doubt he plays ahead of Austin Watson given what DJ wants out of his 4th line.
