Description
Trying to copy Buccigross' offer (which fans of Buf and NYR say is fair, here): https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/423527

Lapierre=Chytil--potential #1C who's had some injuries--Lapierre was predicted to be a top-five pick but missed too much of last year. He's back. Has 18 pts in 11 games this year in junior.
WSH pick<NYR pick by a couple spots, but give NYR Eichel without taking away any roster players and maybe not. Maybe that's equal.
Oshie>Kakko (proven 30 goal scorer vs ???)
Fehervary=Schneider (Fehervary is NHL-ready, though)

Any good?

Read the description. Look up the players if you don't know them. Google some highlights. The Rangers are on TV more, but other teams have real prospects and goalies, too.

i dont want 34 year old oshie whos making 5.75 for the next 4 years. I would take Kakko over Oshie any time. That New York offer is much better than this.

The point is, you're using points in 20 games or so to deflate Eichels value and inflate Oshies value. Everyone on here knows what you're doing. You know it too.

What does NYR have to do with it? You know I'm an LA fan, right? LA some of the least coverage in the NHL.

And Oshie is still better than Johnson. But there's a risk with age and long term contracts. But it's worth looking up the actual numbers, or else you look like this guy:

NYR has had great coverage in the Buffalo area ever since their local cable companies merged.

And nobody said Oshie's as valuable as Eichel. Just that he can fill in for him this year, and that's more valuable than a potential bust like Kakko.

Buffalo fans on here get excited to be offeren NYR's 6th best prospect for the best player their team has had in decades. I assume that's because they keep hearing those guys names and they keep hearing announcers talk up their potential. Offers for superstars traditionally include at least one prospect, one pick, and one established player who can help carry the load in that star's absence. NYR have more top prospects, but the kind of deal that's under discussion is one that several teams could match. I think it might be in the Caps' interest to do so, but obviously it complicates their cap puzzle next summer if they do. Still, it simplifies expansion protection, and that could help them work out the cap, a little bit.

I don't envision buying Oshie is a good thing for any team. Especially a rebuilding team. He's more of a final piece rather than a starting rebuilding piece.

Right. Obviously the main value for Eichel, above, is in Hendrix Lapierre, who was predicted to go 4th or 5th overall, last summer, before he got hurt, Vitek Vanecek who is 5th in wins in the NHL right now, Eric Fehervary who had the best corsi of Washington's defensmen last year, in limited action, and a 1st round pick. More could be added. But for a rebuilding team to keep selling tickets, it needs more than just hope for the distant future. It's good to have an Olympic hero who can keep the power play ticking, so there's a chance the team will win each game they play.

But it's also worth noting that, after next year, Oshie earns a it under 14M over the last three years of his contract, and just 9M over the last two years, so if he doesn't retire or go on LTIR, or get claimed by his hometown expansion team, it'd be reasonable to buy out the last two years. Maybe WSH adds a 2nd round pick to cover that risk? What would you add? I think Oshie's risks are less than the reward of still having a center who's playing on a 57 point pace, even if that's not quite as fast as the 58 point pace he scored on last year, or the 64 point pace he scored on the year before that. He's definitely slowing down. But that doesn't mean most of us will ever catch up.

Let's look it up, shall we? These guys say these guys rank 3,4, and 9: https://www.blueshirtbanter.com/2020/12/15/22169436/blueshirt-banter-2020-new-york-rangers-prospect-rankings-top-24-under-24-rankings-lafreniere-kakko

The guys I'm offering from the Caps apparently rank 2nd, 3rd, and 5th in their system, here: https://www.nhl.com/news/washington-capitals-prospect-watch/c-319787690

If you find better lists, I"m open to reading them. Georgiev graduated before the above was written, but really, Vanecek has now graduated, too. Kakko and Lafreniere were supposed to turn into dependable NHL regulars this year, but if they had, this board would contain something other than Eichel to NYR posts.

If Hendrix was that highly valued...why did Zary make team canada over Hendrix? He wasn't injured then.
I'm not trying to suggest he's a bust AT ALL, but I think there's a little homerism here. Thats not a slight to you. We're all guilty of it.

He had just gotten healthy, and guys are at higher risk of reinjury if you rush them back into world class competition right when they get cleared, than if you let them ease back into things. I think the coach made the right call. Also, Zary is terrific, but it takes 20-some guys to make a team. 11 games into his junior season, Lapierre has 18 points. Is he now worth a 5th overall pick? No. But he's a lot closer to that than he was on draft day. I'm not saying he's worth a 5th overall pick yet. I'm saying he's worth Chytil, who was a normal 21st overall pick, who did well in the AHL and is now starting to adjust to the NHL.

If you think they just want to not pay any more salary and rebuild through the draft at league minimum, then he wouldn't be, but if they want to get full trade value for Eichel while keeping their team as competitive as it has been with Eichel sulking at a 50-some point pace, then Oshie, playing at his usual 50-60 point pace, can do that for a few years, while saving the Sabres almost $30 million compared to keeping Eichel, who gets paid like a 70 point center but isn't getting there right now, even with Hall at his side. Do I think Buffalo fans still want to see their team score some goals and ice a credible power play? Yes. I think they'd prefer that.

Eichel practically asked for a trade. In the NHL, that lowers his trade value. See ROR.

Oshie, meanwhile, has as many points as Eichel, and is only earning $2.5M salary this year.
