Detroit isn't selling Mantha while his stock is low. We're not giving up a high 2nd, which will be essentially a late 1st. I'm not opposed to a Monahan-Mantha swap, but not adding that high 2nd as well. 3rd or lower and we're in the ballpark.

You can always fill the bottom 6 with more sandpaper. Let you top 6 play a skill game. Calgary will likely be icing completely new bottom 6 next year. Top 6 wingers with some bite are not cheap. But if CGY wants Eichel, the conversation starts with Chuky. Bennett is almost 100% gone next year anyways. And I don't believe Mantha will play any softer then Monahan

As long as we're in agreement that there needs to be a bit of an add.

I try to be unbiased and not be a homer when evaluating value and generally, a top 6 center is worth more than a top 6 winger.

Yea I know. But whenever a trade proposal with Monahan to buff gets brought up they say he has no value to them because if they trade Eichel they are rebuilding. I guess it depends on the direction they want to go in. They could sign a guy like Denault to cover them until cozens can step up.

BUF is in constant rebuild lol. They aren't going to get picks and prospects only as nobody can take on $10 mil without sending cap back. I think Monahan makes a lot of sense. He can fill in at 1C until Cozens is ready (if he gets there) and then move into a comfortable 2C role. Middlestadt is hot garbage and doesn't look to be more than a bottom 6F. A change of scenery could really help Monahan. Plus they would get at least a 1 if not 2 firsts back plus a prospect or role player so imo that helps with a rebuild.

Indeed but one is a 4th liner, the two others are top6 players.

Debrusk is a middle 6F. Mantha a 2nd Liner. Tkachuk is a 1st liner, Bennett bottom 6F leaning to 3rd liner.

If you can flip Monahan instead of Chuky for Eichel you do that forsure. There would have to be a big add however and I don't think Calgary has the asset necessary to do that. The closest player would be Valmiki.
But I do think Chuky as the centerpiece for Eichel makes it one of the more competitive offers they will receive. Denault will be available and has proven he can carry that workload while Cozens develops. A top 6 starting with denault - chuky - cozens - reinheart - olofsson is a pretty solid starting point and I would take that over monahan - cozens - reinheart - olofsson - ?.

Monahan has more value than Mantha. He is a center and has better and more consistent production. Higher draft pedigree. Higher highs. Smaller lows. Detroit has to add something for it to make sense

Debrusk plays for one of the best teams in the league and hasn't got over 45 points. Mantha plays for the worst team in the league year over year and slightly out performs him. Bennett is a fringe 3rd liner. Tkachuk is by far the best player of the 4. Maybe Mantha is also a middle 6 player but I think on a better team he does much better.

How is he a fringe 3rd liner? His average number of points over the past three years: 22. Not good defensively or on the PP either.

I never talked about Tkachuk.

I don't think Chucky is involved in a trade for Eichel. Would love to get him but not what you propose. I could see ditching the Det and Bos trade and adding in Monahan and Bennett while removing Chucky to get Eichel as more realistic.

Lines aren't based solely on points you understand that right? Bennett has been a 3rd liner on CGY and would be pretty well anywhere.

Yea it would suck to lose Chuky but I think that's the cost. If I put myself in buffalo's shoes that what I want from Calgary. And if i'm Calgary I really think about it. I would rather have Eichel at 10m then Chuky at 9m. And you're giving up a few extra pieces but you're not selling the farm.

But monahan + zary+ 1st + bennett is definitely a better deal from the flames perspective.

For the Flames, you have to look at the proposal long term. If we lose Chucky think we stay mediocre. Eichel needs good players to play with and that needs to be Chucky. Johnny says he wants to stay in YYC but what else is he going to say. I think he moves on after this deal. SO we have to look at losing Monahan, Chucky and possible Johnny. That's not a great future. I could see Manahan, one of Zary/Pelletier, 1st and either Dube/Mangiapane for Eichel. I would even add a second to get it done. If you get him you have to over pay and keep Chucky at the same time.
