Description
After much thought, I think these 3 guys are the best fits for the jets at the tdl. I also think that while the Tatar move isn’t necessary, it will be good. That said, I’m not paying any more for Tatar than this. This is very similar to what Dallas paid for zucarello a couple of years ago and seems like the going rate. I wouldn’t do it for anything more. One again MTL fans, if you want more, that’s okay, it just won’t be from the jets.

This is assuming all 3 teams are well out of a playoff spot by the tdl.

Jumping in from the Dumba thread. Like the Savard move even if it’s unlikely they take DeMelo back. Ekholm also really fits.

A few jackets fans like the idea of having demelo back. Maybe the jets add a 3rd but they liked the base of the trade. One person said that with savard gone they would need a stable presence to replace him so demelo fits. Makes sense since they shoudlnt exactly be rebuilding imo

If they don’t want him, we can rework the trades to send demelo to Nashville with Stanley while and send futures to Columbus instead.

I can’t figure the Blue Jackets out, they aren’t out of it by any means and should be adding. Savard should bring back a return but IDK they’d move him if they’re in it even if they can get a real return for him.

he'll end up near 45 points in 56 games which is pretty good and can fetch a good return.

I don’t personally see them making the playoffs without Chicago suddenly becoming bad. I mean, it would have been close all year between those two but this recent slump from Columbus might put them out of the running. And I really want savard on the jets lol

This is very well done.
I highly doubt the Jets are this aggressive, but it’s fun to dream. And realistically, with the weirdness of this year, it’d be the year to push the chips to the middle. But you’ve managed to upgrade the D corps, not affect the expansion draft and not trade away any significant assets (Ville, Dylan, Perfetti). Very impressed.
My big fear would be the adjustment period needed to acclimate these dudes into the lineup. The backend would look pretty thin for that 2 week quarantine period, but not unmanageable. Basically what we looked like the 1st two weeks of the season.
44-3
24-4
88-8
If I had to pick which trades I want the most to happen, I’d say the Savard trade. I’d rather not lose DeMelo, but if we sent a pick or prospect we’d lose DD to Seattle so I guess it makes sense.
Ekholm would be second. That’s a big haul but if we’re not going to lose him to Seattle, it’s worth it. I watched their games vs CBJ this weekend and he is a stud. Goals aside, he is a very poised player with the puck in his own end. And NSH needs to figure out their expansion plans. If they go 4 and 4 then they keep Ekholm, but if they go 7 and 3, they need to deal him (or Fabbro).
I agree, the MTL trade is unnecessary. But I also agree that it could be good. Another potential top 6 forward could be awesome. Anything to try and upgrade the wing position would be great.
All in all, this is awesome. Absolute WAGON

I love all of these trades, best armchair I’ve seen in a long time. It would be great if the Jets also could get Savard to extend and fit it under the salary cap. I was surprised he wasn’t in the Laine trade when I heard that it happened. I don’t know if the Jets need Tatar, but if they could make it work with the cap space I’m all for it. Kudos to you for leaving Lowry on the team. I’m getting sick of everybody trying to trade him for their teams garbage players and contracts.

CBJ should do this. Savard is not as good as DeMelo currently and is most likely going to sign a terrible contract this offseason.

Not sure if serious or not. I'm just going to pretend that you are so the rationale would be that this is a 1 year alignment change only and next season things likely go back to normal where the Habs and the Jets aren't even in the same Conference. You'd only be making this trade if you're out of the playoffs, which personally I think you will be as the Flames will pass you, but you likely won't be that far out that you'll want to sell, so it's pretty unlikely.

In a typical year I'd be for the other trades for Ekholm and Savard but I'm out on any trade coming from a U.S. based team for a rental. 14 day quarantine, then needing to get their conditioning back and learn the systems. There just isn't time this year. The PLD trade made me realize that we shouldn't be adding any short term pieces.

I think we can come out of the North as currently constructed. All the teams are pretty close so it's going to come down to a lucky bounce here or there.

I don’t think you understand the habs situation right now. We’re still in a favourable position in regards to Calgary, especially now that we appear to have broken out of the funk of the 9 games before last.

Also, there’s no chance Calgary is far enough ahead of Montréal at the deadline that the habs would consider selling. Montréal needs to make the playoffs this year. If this roster misses, everything gets thrown out the window, and the franchise gets put in a blender.

And of course the Jets would do this, if you’re getting a player like Tatar for cheap you jump on it. But there’s no chance considering this would come close to crossing Bergevin’s mind.

Really? From what I’ve seen, he’s very good. Also it’s more a move based on need. Cause Maurice won’t play demelo with Morrissey cause he wants to distribute size evenly among pairings. Hence,
JoMo-poolman
Forbort-pionk
Beaulieu-demelo

I understand the sentiment since the jets are now one of the bigger teams in the division so I don’t have a huge problem with it. However, considering this, and that after an ekholm trade demelo would be left exposed to seattle, it seemed best to move him

As for savard, what makes you say he isn’t good anymore or even that he’ll be signing a big contract. At most he gets 4.5M for 3-4 season imo.
