He’s not underperforming, just a little snake bit. I have high high confidence that the second he goes to a contender and has some good centers around him, he’ll produce again. Before Wednesday night, Rakell was still leading assists.

I think he needs a little shakeup and could use a fresh in Colorado, where he could possibly win a cup. Not to mention his team-friendly deal.

Yeah he actually generates a lot of chances every game whether it be by assist or his own stick. Issue is he has a 1% shooting average. A statistical anomaly like that is guaranteed to fix itself at some point and return to somewhere between 10-15%

Youre both probably right, I didnt really look that deep into him before commenting tbh. I still think the price is a bit steep though - I think value wise its more likely Sakic would look for a guy like Haula for a mid round pick like theyve done in the past (Namestnikov, Brassard, etc) rather than giving up a 1st + prospect + roster player for a higher profile guy like Rakell

I could be convinced to protect Hakanpaa or Larsson over Manson.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with my two esteemed colleagues. Teams don't make trades based upon future hopes unless they're dealing for prospects. Established players are judged on their current performance, and Rakell's trade value is at its nadir. (He missed three open nets in the first game against Arizona this week before the Coyotes had scored. Maybe even WE wouldn't have blown a 4-0 lead.) I'd be happy to get the first and Beaucage and satisfied to get Compher and the first.

If Anaheim retains 50% I think you'd have a deal.

Upgrading from Compher to Rakell at the cost of a late 1st would be worth it. Beaucage is probably worth about a high 3rd right now (maybe late 2nd) so the difference between that and an early 4th could be made up for with some retention on Rakell. Keep in mind that there's also cap savings from getting out of the last year of Compher's contract.

I dont really see the point in going after a guy like Rakell when the top 6 already has Landeskog, Mackinnon, Rantanen, Kadri, Burakovsky, & Saad. Rakell would get middle 6 mins on the Avs and 2nd PP time - no point in paying the price of a top line guy when he wont be used in that role (and even if he was given top 6 mins it would come at the expense of a different top 6 guy being pushed down the lineup). Compher has been underwhelming so far but he could very easily bounce back to a roughly 0.5P/GP middle 6 guy like he has been in the past.

Rakell would be perfect for PP2 in the Mackinnon spot. He could also be an upgrade at 3C. Ideally he'd play on the wing though and push one of Saad or Burakovsky down. In conjunction with a trade for a better 3C this could be a great trade.

Also, Rakell would be an internal replacement for Saad as he likely won't be resigned this offseason for cap reasons.

Landeskog ---- Mackinnon ---- Rantanen
Burakovsky ------- Kadri --------- Donskoi
Rakell ----------------- 3C ----------- Saad
Nichuskin --------- Bellemare --- Calvert

That's a great middle 6, with essentially two 2nd lines.

I agree its great on paper, but imo Rakell would realistically be a 0.5P/GP guy in that role. His TOI would both be down from what hes used to in ANA and he wouldnt be a go to guy when the team needs a goal (less PP and extra attacker situations). Thats basically the same production that Compher has provided in a similar middle 6 role the past 2 seasons.

I dont think there is a huge difference between Compher and Rakell if both get PP2 time and 15 mins per game, and I dont think its worth giving up a 1st + Beaucage to make that swap. Id rather just go get Haula for a 3rd/4th and have similar production for a small fraction of the cost.

I agree that a 3C would be more beneficial to this team. Rakell would be a bit of a luxury.

Protect Mahura over Manson. No significant future for Manson in this league.

edit: to clarify significant refers to being a top 4 dman on a good team.
