I could see Holland willing to do something like that however it’s questionable if a first rounder is up for grabs considering the season he is having. Debatable certainly enough there to get something worked out.

A 1st round pick from a playoffs team and a 31 yo do-nothing in Kyle Turris for sure isn't fantasy.

Do you really think the Oilers and Flames are trading likely picks in the teens for those guys? Turris and Bennett aren't much but certainly those picks are worth

It is funny how things change. A month ago I would have said you are crazy but after seeing all 6 Laval games and Caufield. By next season or right after, both Caufield and Ylonen are in Habs line up and they are top 9 players. Plus Habs have tons of picks from last two drafts and this upcoming draft, I would even trade Danault and Tatar for picks and prospects for 2023.

The Flames I doubt it, that's why I didn't include them in my first comment, but the Oilers I do think so. They have a big hole at 3C that Danault fills more than perfectly, and they have the cap space next year to extend him.

Pageau signed an extension as part of that deal. The Islanders were given permission to talk extension before agreeing to the trade. He's the perfect example for players need to have term remaining to get this kind of return. Term or be a superstar like Hall. Neither Tatar nor Danault match up.

danault can certainly sign an extension. tatar just put up 61 points in 68 games. depending on the market. IF the habs choose to trade him, they can fetch a first. esp if he's traded to a US team where there are no quarantine restrictions for players. canadian teams would likely want picks/prospects back. 14 day quanrantine means almost 5-8 games shorthanded. plus teh draft is a question mark this year. we could have 2 drafts taking place the same year. teams would be more willing to trade 1 of those 2 1st rd picks. i agree with your point about the extension though.

Two drafts in the same year doesn't make teams more likely to move first round picks. The facts are these guys are rentals and arn't superstars. They won't get 1st rounders.

Did you just say hall, sorry you’ve lost tour argument. Taylor hall has zero goals and 6 assists 5v5 and doesn’t play defence. Rentals like Tatar and danault don’t tend to get dealt so their isn’t much of a history to go on. But goodrow got a first(yes he had 1 more year). Will teams like flames and oilers move a first no, but IF the Habs are blowing it up at the deadline I wouldn’t be surprised if someone moved a 1st for them

If you are going to try to argue that Taylor Hall isn't a superstar you might as well just stop before you even begin.

I can't see any 3C being worth of a 1st...unless it's from a team like Tampa who is going to pick in the late 20s and 30s. But really Denault has been poor this year. He seems to have lost millions by not signing a reported 5.5m X 6 extension last summer. In today's cap league, what is 3C worth? Gee, some fans don't like Kerfoot at 3.5m (I'm fine with it)

Superstar your mental. He’s had 2 good seasons out of like 10. He has potential but come on. Is domi a superstar also?

Hall was a superstar(well maybe for a couple of seasons)...but doubt if he is looked upon as one now. Maybe not even a "star" now

He's not a 3C, he's a 2C but Edmonton's two top centers would make him the 3C unless one of them is moved to the wing. Guys like Hayes, Stastny have been moved as rentals for 1st round picks while putting similar numbers to Danault's.

Thus why a team needing a 2C is much more likely to pay a 1st for Danault and outbid whatever Holland would give, since Holland is likely already concerned he sent out so many picks last deadline. I think it's just not the best fit for EDM, more likely EDM looks for a guy who is an actual 3C, as much as I'd like Danault it's a bit overkill and not the best way the Oil could use a 1st.

lol i didnt think my 2 "simple trades" would get this much attention lol..... I could see Edmonton doing that trade for sure. Get a key faceoff guy for playoffs, and put danualt with the right people, he can definitely play well...... Tatar might just be the 1st coming back, but i added bennett just becuase i heard they are looking to trade him.

But every playoff team will trade there 1st round pick to get better that year.....

I think every "contender" would trade their 1st, but Im not sure Calgary or EDM are contenders. Personally I covet 1st rounders more than the average guy and I wouldnt deal them for these guys without an extension.

Yea like ottawa is already out, and vancouver looks like poop..... So you have the other 5 canadian teams fighting for 4 playoff spots.... Depending on what the standings look like in a month, these trades wont happen.... But as of right now, edmonton in 2nd and calgary is 1 win away from being in the playoffs...... These trades ONLY happen if Montreal struggles, and if Edmonton and Calargy are in a playoff picture
