I think cap strapped might be accurate. Cash strapped would be no. Havent looked recently, but the owner was worth 5 billion at one point. He may actually be responsible for the mess the hockey franchise is in, but i wouldnt call him cash strapped.

Well hes a fan of the team, a season ticket holder from decades ago. His wife said something like "the bills will make money no matter what we do, with the sabres we have to decide how much we are willing to lose". When the pandemic hit, they let a ton of people go and said they were looking at a cap of around 70 million. Then taylor hall returned their calls and they changed their mind. I dont think they are willing to waste money on paying gms and coaches to not work for them anymore, and i dont think that they are going to throw money away on crazy expensive buyouts either. We have reached the point where they are themselves being questioned regarding the people they continue to hire to run their hockey operation. I cant see them doing anything drastic like trimming payroll (more than half of the nhl teams also indicated the desire to stay around 70 million to stop the bleeding, so that wasnt just them). Actually, i kind of expect them to continue to spend to the cap, this is their mess and i think they will try to fix it, which seems less likely if they decide to pinch pennies.
