I like it from an Oilers stand point.

Based on previous posts, I'm assuming there will be the "It'll take a 1st + just to get rid of Neal" narrative, which I don't think is true at all. For those that take this stance, a 1st, Lavoie, Skinner and Koskinen is what is left, which seems a little light for Gibson.

As a hockey fan...I know this isn't close 2 enough for Gibson.

I believe that the trade for Gibson would have to be Koskinan+Yamamoto and build on that. Gibsons a top 5 goalie on an axing contract and is only 27... Good luck getting him

It is more than any goalie has gotten in the last 10 years by more than double

You would have to give up compensation to take on Neal's hefty contract, but it would be much lighter in a situation like this where they retain salary.

Imo it's a bad deal for the Ducks. They give up one of the best goalies in the business, and gain nothing substantial but picks in the process.

You know the trade is unfair when the key piece coming from the other team is a franchise caliber player and from the other one it's a low and full question mark pick. You can't make a fair trade on that basis.

ANA needs a scoring winger. Yamamoto+1st starts the discussion, with Oilers adding should they want Gibson.

Rebuilding teams usually only want picks. Lots and Lots. Its a numbers game. Look at what Ottawa is doing, they are going to be awesome in about 3 years. STACKED

In a cap world, theres no doubt Oilers would need to compensate a little for giving out Neals contract, since he's obviously not worth $5M+. But the reality is he only has 2 seasons left. On top of that, his buyout hit is less than $2M for double the term left. Thats a pretty minor pill to swallow IMO.

Im not gonna turn this into a "IF you don't want to give a 1st, then you can keep him" discussion, but the Oilers aren't going to move big assets. They would have no problem buying him out. Its more of an opportunity for a team to take a mid level prospector pick as a little bonus for taking on good vet whos about $2.5M overpaid.

I think a different package is what it will take for Gibson.

It's not really enough of the fight pieces for them to klmove arguably the best goalie signed long term.

One of broberg or bouchard will be in the deal
Even Holloway at this point is in the deal

Name a goalie half as good as Gibson who wasn't on an expiring contract and got traded in the last 10 years.

For the life of me, I cannot understand why the zombie illogic of "no goalie's been traded for this, ergo this cannot be the right value for a goalie" continues to walk among us. It's exactly the same as saying "No Harvard player has been traded for a first-round pick in the last ten years, therefore, Adam Fox isn't worth a first-round pick."

They gain a lot of prospects yes, but also majority of them will be wasted no slots for them whatsoever. Just look at what happened with Duchene to CBJ trade. They gained 3 prospects for him, and it seems unlikely that any of them is making that lineup.

They have a young and stacked prospect pool, but at sometimes that pool is getting too full, and some of them aren't going to fit in in a sense... ANA also has a decent prospect pool, and what they now need is young NHL ready players. Yamamoto as a 22 year old is an absolutely ideal piece.

The assets offered here...some have value, some of them don't, but mostly they are all pieces Ducks don't need in the slightest.

GDI, I accidentally clicked the "Like" button twice and now I'm permanently shut out.

I proposed Yamamoto, Bear or Bouchard, Koskinen and a first last week. Nothing since has changed my mind.

Neal is a distraction, especially with the amount of cap space shown.

Anaheim has plenty of maturing prospects. The 2022 first is devalued as a result. In any trade for Gibson, we would want to address more than one weakness; otherwise, we'd just be playing whack-a-mole. So we'd need a replacement goalie (Koskinen), quality talent at RW (Yamamoto or, at worst, Holloway or Lavoie), quality depth at RD (Bear or Bouchard), and a first-round pick for the SIX YEARS (i.e., more than Draisaitl or McDavid) Gibson's contract still has on it.

Oh, for goodness' sake. Lehner was on an expiring contract and had already announced that he wasn't re-signing with Chicago. Even suggesting that as in the same universe as a comparable is intellectually dishonest.

Yeah, and by your logic, that's what Adam Fox is worth. Anyone whose mind operates that way has an IQ measurable in two digits. But that's exactly what the "no goalie is worth x because no goalie has ever been traded for x" fallacy exposes.
