Max Domi

Description
Obviously, Domi has been playing horrifically once again this season, so there is definitely risk in trading for him. However, I wonder if he can turn things around in Toronto playing with Marner who he was teammates in at London. Obviously he is a great skater and puck handler who excels in transition and on the cycle. Maybe the Leafs' system will suit him well.

Domi isn't worth 1st and 2nd pick to make this trade possible. Domi at his best, yea the Leafs would want him, but it plays too irregular to have push out the current Leafs. I'd take Engvall, Petan, Boyd, Vesey ,rotating in the Leafs lineup rather than giving Domi and Galyenchuk ice time.

I agree that Domi is inconsistent & has a bad attitude, but I also feel the situation he’s had to play in has hindered his ability to generate results. For example, last season he was buried on the fourth line from the start with Evans & Weal, two guys who aren’t good at even strength. This year he’s playing in a defence first system under Torts and constantly being benched. He scored 70 points during his breakout year on drouin’s line, maybe play him with elite talent in a system that suits his playstyle & he’ll dominate.

I would love domi on Toronto, I have no clue what he’d cost but double retention would never happen. It’d have to be Kerfoot out one way or another

He only got buried with Evans and Weal in the playoffs. He was played mostly with Suzuki, Lehkonen, and Armia in the regular season.

I liked Domi's flashes of potential in Arizona. His breakout season in Montreal was quite a revelation. His speed, 28 goals, willing to fight was nuts.

It seemed that Montreal continued to give him every chance to get back to that but something was off. I don't know if it was attitude, off-ice issues or what but MB gave up on him for a guy that scored 1 goal in the 2018/19 postseason and only 1 goal in 2019/20 regular season...and MTL won the trade.

I can't believe that CLB signed Domi for $5,300,000. He looks to be a 10 goal, $2 MIL player at most but might rebound to be a small 20 goal scorer that plays with an edge.

All that being said, I do like him more than most of our LH wingers. It would definitely have to be 1/2 retained because of his current value NOT because of Leafs cap space. I also agree with @palhal and with Domi's current level of play I would rather see Engvall, Petan or Boyd play even if Domi was at the CLB unrealistic 50% retention of $2,650,000. I believe having a 2nd team retain would be too costly in assets for the Leafs to consider it.

It must burn CLB to watch Josh Anderson playing so well in MTL.

He's one of many players I'd be interested in if our cap allowed us to take risks. Our cap is way too tight to take a risk on him.

I think he has plenty of upside. Just not for the leafs

Thanks for the correction. I didn’t know he played with Suzuki.

Yeah I think it’s just a combination of bad attitude, work ethic and locker room presence that led to Domi’s downfall. And obviously playing in Torts’ system has caused a lot of high end offensive players to become limited. You’re right that the price is too much for him and he would need to be retained. Still, would be interesting to see what he can do in a puck possession system alongside great players.
