Selling Bertuzzi High

Description
Bert brings a lot. And the Wings would miss him terribly. But he's 25 and his style of game wears on the body. He may have another 5 years in him before he declines, which is when Detroit should be competitive again.

I love Bertuzzi and think he would fit well with EDM...but the way Holloway has been playing this year, I doubt EDM would want to move him in (almost) any trade. I think Holloway makes the Oilers out of camp next season.

Yeah I’m gonna pass. Holloway is a similar player but great two way plus cheaper with 3 years of ELC. Decent offer but oilers pass for sure

Nah, I think Holloway will be a pretty decent everyday NHLer as soon as next season, and being on his ELC for the next 3 years will be very valuable to the Oil. Bertuzzi will need a fairly big salary soon, and I agree, is already wearing down. Not a good use of a great asset in Holloway for the Oil.

My basis for the trade was compared to what Tatar returned which was a 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The 1st being Holloway in this scenario. Salary would have to be going back to Detroit so insert Chiasson.
Detroit is all about future. Edmonton is all about now and winning with McDavid and Draisaitl in their primes. Plus Bert is a Holland draft pick and Holland LOVES Bertuzzi's game. But you're right, Them letting Holloway go is very very unlikely. But If Detroit sold Bert now the price would be a top prospect would could also make the Wings team next year, not a late 1st which is another 2 or possibly 3 years away.

If it was a 1st rounder instead of Holloway then maybe. Also depends on what bertuzzi wants on his contract extension

If this is all it takes to get him, I'd wager you can get way better offers from other teams.

Edmonton's 1st will be in the 20 - 30 range. The 2021 draft is likely to be pushed back to 2022 also. Whatever prospect that pick becomes likely won't see the NHL until 2024. Holloway could possibly be in the NHL next year. For that reason I'd be asking for Holloway over their 2021 1st. But I know he'd be tough to pry out of Edmonton. But there's also the Ken Holland factor. He drafted Bertuzzi. And He loves Bertuzzi. He's the kind of player that could help Edmonton go deep this playoffs and get past Toronto to the final 4.

I would say Holloway is so far performing above his draft placement post-draft, so you can't really compare his value to a 1st rd pick where there is always inherently a lot of unknown. And yes, Holland loves Bertuzzi with the history I'm sure, but the same goes for Holloway since he just drafted him because, well, he probably really likes him. Maybe just not the right team if the Oil are really high on Holloway, as they appear to be. Just yesterday, a local broadcaster (Bob Stauffer) was musing about signing Holloway at the end of the College season for a cup of coffee, and Stauffer usually only muses because he has actually heard rumblings in the organization, not from some random source ...I'm not saying that is necessarily a good idea, but it tells me Holland is very high on Holloway, perhaps like he was on Larkin. Similar trajectories so far.

But I agree on the general worth of Bert in a trade being like Tatar's was, as you suggest.

I fully agree with all of that. Which is why I'd want a player like Holloway in Detroit's system smile

Haha, fair. He's been surprising this season. Would be huge for the Oil if they finally actually overachieved on a 1st round pick (although Yamo is perhaps on his way to do so too, we will see).

I agree as a Wings fan I'd also pass and I think the majority for both fan bases would pass as well. Detroit loves Bertuzzi and with the season Holloway is having Holland isn't going to trade him. Say the trade happens and Bertuzzi or Holloway doesn't live up to expectations now as the GM you have now pissed off a good portion of your fan base.

Very true. But Ken Holland also drafted Anthansiou. And loved Anthanasiou. He had that exact same mindset last year. If he does it again and it doesn't work out, he looks really stupid

I think Edmonton has to add more, chiasson is a cap dump which would cost a pick alone to dump. Halloway might become a good player but will he be as good ad bertuzzi? Prob not. The 2nd adds value but not enough to part with bertuzzi for. Edmonton going to have to add something more of value for wings to consider

Chaisson is simply to make salary work and it's a current roster spot for a roster spot. Chaisson will be a UFA this summer and walks with no long term impact for the wings. It's not really a dump.

Holloway will be good. As good as Bert isn't a fair thing as it's hard to compare him to Bert as they're different players with different styles. Holloway is more of a Larkin type player. Plus getting a 2nd and a 3rd. I'd feel this would be fair value for Bertuzzi and what having a Bertuzzi could bring to a contender 'right now'.

I'm not looking or hoping Detroit trades Bertuzzi at all. But if they did, this is the sort of return I would expect.

Top Prospect + 2nd + 3rd (or mid level prospect).

We'd likely not get more. Bert has a lot of value but he's not in the elite category.
Holloway would be a solid return. He's almost 2 ppg in NCAA currently at 18 years old. And he's a center too. Detroit needs centers more than wingers. Detroit has a ton of Wingers in the system.
A guy like Holloway could be great for Wingers like Raymond and Berggren down the road.
Right now our best Center prospect is Veleno. We're thin down the middle and solid on Wing. Trading a winger for a future center isn't a horrible plan.
