Going full rebuild would be a very very bad idea

Description
2 options:
1) Full rebuild where we completely blow up the team. This means trading even Arvy, Fil, and Ellis (in addition to the likely departures of Ehky and Granlund). We won't be fielding a contender for 7-10 years. This is not good because we still have some quality players right now on good contracts (Fil, Arvy, Josi, Ellis).
2) Quick retool. The main goal here is to be very competitive for the 3 year window between 2022-23 and 2024-25. By 2025 we will have $22M tied up in 34 year olds Duchene, Josi, Ellis which will severely cramp our ability to be competitive. So we need to take this season and next season to let Tolvy/Tomasino/Kunin/Fabbro/Saros develop and show us what they are. Our ability to compete will rely on whether these guys can turn into solid NHL players. By 2022-23 we will have Askarov as well, and he could also be a key piece in the aforementioned window. Here are the steps we have to take:
a) trade away Granlund/Haula/Richardson for picks/prospects to refill the cupboard; nothing that will help the team immediately but will be needed as trade chips or to fill out our AHL squad
b) figure out what we can get for Ehky; this is a big piece to the equation. I'd love either a solid center or D prospect or a first rounder. Whatever we get out of this deal needs to contribute during our window. I would also honestly be okay with keeping Ehky and protecting him in expansion.
c) give Joey to Seattle; we can't win with 2 centers at $8M that aren't 1Cs
d) sign a veteran C on a 1-year deal so we don't have to throw Tomasino in there quit yet if he isn't ready. I don't care who it is, could be any one of Stastny/Krejci/Staal/Bonino/Stepan whoever doesn't get resigned and we have the cap to overpay them for a year.
e) figure out who out of Tolvy/Tomasino/Kunin/Trenin/Pitlick/Parssinen/Carrier/Davies will be the contributors alongside our core of Josi-Ellis and DuFA. Then in 2022-23 offseason go sign whoever we need to in order to fill the holes.
Big pieces we will need are a 2nd pair D to fill Ehky's shoes and likely a 2nd line forward if one of Tomasino/Tolvy/Kunin don't cut it.

I can see this being the case, but I think there needs to be some more turnover in the bottom 6. I can't see this team bring all 4 of Sissons, Cousins, Jarnkrok, and Grimaldi back -- at least 1, probably 2, should be moved.

Pitlick, Tolvanen, and Tomasino should have roster spots available for them next season. They should all be given every chance to make the team -- same for one of Carrier and Davies (probably one starting and one scratched or in minors or traded). Ultimately, I would want Trenin, Pitlick, Tolvanen, Tomasino, and Carrier to all be starting in the NHL next season -- but we'll see if this "youth movement" ever actually happens...

I don't think that's enough for any team to take Johansen, especially with players like Ingram, Sissons, Jarnkrok, Trenin, etc. available who may be more interesting as long-term solutions or trade pieces in the future for SEA.

But if NSH somehow gets rid of Johansen, I wouldn't mind seeing Krejci on a 1-2 year deal -- but I doubt he would come to NSH.

You're not getting a probable Top 5 pick from the Rangers for what is basically a year rental. Try somebody else

The main problem is all the tough contracts they'd have to move out to really start a rebuild. Duchene and Johansen's are looking terrible right now with high dollars and term left. Josi and Ellis are fine production wise, but both of them are 30 with 7 and 6 years left respectively, not sure teams are gonna wanna take on the back end of those deals. & Sissons is a bottom 6 guy that got signed (somehow) to a 7 year deal. Doesn't matter what the cap hit is, you don't sign a bottom 6 guy to that long of a deal and call it a win. Arvidsson and Forsberg would bring back good returns, but other than that Nashville is looking at some serious loss value on deals. Be a long and tough rebuild like that. Not to mention that Poile isn't getting any younger so it'd likely be new management change over first before it could start. Won't be fun at all

Jarnkrok signed for 6 years at $2m -- I would call that contract a win. But for the most part, yeah, I agree.

I'm not saying they wouldn't. Yes he's good. But over $9M per season for 7 years when teams just got hit hard financially by the pandemic, that's not an easy deal to move. He'll be late 30's when it's done and teams won't want that cap hit. Nashville's return is likely decreased because of it, with lesser prospects and likely a bad contract coming back still.

It would still be a very easy deal to move lol. In 3-4 years maybe not but definitely right now.

If we are trying to give the youth movement a chance I think you still need to keep some vet bottom 6 players that can step up if needed. Jarny/Sissons/Grimaldi/Cousins can all step up into a 2nd line role if needed given this would be a team without playoff expectations. Plus, they wouldn't really be taking the spot of any young players. Thats why you trade Granlund/Haula/Richardson at the deadline and get rid of Joey in Seattle expansion.
