While I do think Ek is underrated nationally, Reinhart is worth more than this and we don't have the center depth to give up Ek for him.

He's not a center. He's a winger who can also play the center position if he needs to.

But more importantly he's on record stating he doesn't want to either be a center or play that position.

I'd say the trade is bad for the Wild for 2 reasons: they're giving up a center without getting one back and Reinhart will be an RFA expecting a pay raise so they'll be on the hook to pay him for things he did on another team with no real assurance he'll be the same player here.

Wild aren't trading Joel Erickson Ek. He was untouchable this summer, & he's become a stud. Foligno was also just signed to 3 years extension. So no.

Canes are in a possible championship window. They won’t worry about Dougie until they have to. Risto isn’t a needle mover as he’d be the only contract past this year.

Vancouver says no. The vancouver side of the van-buf trade is:
Demko, Höglander, Horvat, MacEwen, Motte all of whom are either restricted free agents (Demko, Hoglander, MacEwan) or signed to at least two more years at very team-friendly cap hits (Horvat, Motte).

The buffalo side is:
Eichel, Thompson, Mittelstadt

IMO
Motte + MacEwen > Thompson + Mittelstadt
So you basically want
Demko, Höglander, Horvat and a 1st for Eichel. This might not be a massive overpay for Eichel but this is Vancouver losing the strong players from the middle of its roster to get another top end talent in Eichel
