The TO media is just ridiculous

Description
The Leafs have definitely had their fair share of collapses over the last several years but comparing any of those to last night's game is just silly. What actually happened? Period 1, TO dominated and one bad sequence from Bogosian resulted in a goal against and we are at 2-1. Ottawa literally had 1 chance and Andersen had no chance. Period 2, a bit more even but TO scored 3 times to take a commanding lead. Then a careless give away by JT and it's 5-2 while on the PP. Again TO was the better team. Period 3, an unlucky bounce and Zub gets a breakaway out of the box it's 5-3. Ottawa does nothing until they get a PP in which Vesey breaks his stick and when he's going to get a new one Bogosian blows his coverage and it's 5-4. To this point, every good chance they had ends in a goal. Then with the net empty a puck bounces into the air and the Ottawa player bats it in. A rather fluke play there but it's tied. Marner just misses out on ending it in regulation and then again in OT and a breakaway seals it for Ottawa.

The media will say it's en epic collapse and a heroic effort by Ottawa. The reality is it was just one of those games. You deserved to win but lost. Oh well carry on and do better next time.

Now we have a bunch of Leaf fans wanting to trade the usual whipping boys because they don't understand hockey and want blood because someone on twitter said so. Just relax. These games happen. I wonder how many headlines there are today talking about Tampa's huge collapse after allowing 6 goals last night? Or what about the team TO should model the Blue Jackets? Do you think the papers in Columbus are calling to trade all their defenceman because they allowed 7? Nope everyone is calm there, because these games happen. Take a breath and let it go.

You and I have had our fair share of disagreements on here, but this is 100% accurate. It's hockey. Bad $hit happens. If it was straightforward every night, there wouldn't be a lot of point watching.

Media often blows things way to far. Yes blowing a 5-2 lead is unacceptable but it happens. Keefe admitted that he knew this team was showing the signs within the 2nd period of losing. I didnt watch the game (Had to see the schneiders cut)

But with loss comes growth. The kids now understand no lead is safe and they got some work to do as sloppy play gets u no where.

also rest freddie for **** sakes as I can tell hes tired at this point

They string another series of wins together and this game will be forgotten about.

Better to not just read another sports related in Toronto the day after a game like this. Better to just not read sports media at all, actually.

Freddie was not at all to blame here. Neither is Rielly or Nylander who of course are getting blame today for God knows why. Play this game 100 times from the 3rd period on and TO wins 99 times, they were the better team in the 3rd. Just lost, no really reason to analyze anything. It's just one of those games.

Like ever lol. I just don't get how it's so popular? Unless it's an overreaction it's not worth reading to most people. Fans and trolls alike

I find it more funny how fans are screaming to trade Rielly because he doesn't play defence or didn't pass it to Matthews on the OT shot.

Both goals he was on the ice for were breakaways. First one is a guy coming outta the box which is a play every player dreams of but rarely happens. It's not like Rielly can stand beside the penalty box door and wait for Zub to come out. That's a race that no d-man makes when they're at the end of their shift. Then in OT, Marner walks the Sens defence like their peewee tryout level, dishes it back to Rielly, while Hogberg is laying down on the ice and it's only a player in the crease to block the shot. No one in the world is passing that up. It don't matter if Matthews was wide open like he was or not. That's a shooting situation to end the game from an offensive d-man. It got blocked by a player! Props to them. Then Rielly on the back check has his man, Marner gets blown over by Dadonov (who mighta been the guy that blocked the shot) and Marner's laying on the ice as Dadonov takes off on a break away. Where was Matthews? Coming back with a lazy back check that he didn't even try to get back on. So Rielly had a chance to end the game, it gets blocked, covers his man after, is still the first guy back on Dadonov at the end of his shift, looks physically gassed, and they score. How is any of that on Rielly? That's on Marner more for getting blown over and Matthews for not hustling his ass back.

But people on here don't know how to break plays down and talk random sh it like they know the game. I come on here more for the laughs now, but it gets ridiculous some times.

Nylander was the one to cost the Leafs the game with his lazy plays

You don't deserve to win if you blow a 5-1 lead in one period haha. The sens were 0-240 in their history when being down by 4 goals. Now they are 1-240. These games don't just happen.

I agree that it's not all on Andersen but he needs to step up on some of those. Can't blame him for most, but that OT goal was terrible. He dropped way too soon and gave Dadonov the entire top part of the net. He never got the feel of the puck from the start. That Batherson back hand is one that needs to be stopped to in the first, short side goals should not happen. But he's the type of goalie that needs to feel a lot of shots to start the game to really get into his rhythm. He didn't last night and after the first period you could see the meltdown coming because of it

Ah yes. But you forget about the goals where Bogosian gets tossed and turned like a rag doll on. But it's only Nylander's fault? 😂

Apparently they'll be a cup winning team within 4 years if their owner can read the future

That seems like an aggressive timeline, given that they've got Matt Murray starting for them (Sidenote: I don't hate Matt Murray, and I think it's hard to judge his play based on how his team has played in front of him, but also think he's primed to be Martin Jones 2.0).

I wonder how many coaches they'll go through before they actually make the playoffs.
