Description
There are a lot of contracts the Sharks can't trade, so I didn't. Just trying to rework the core and hopefully find players who mesh together better, because the current iteration of the Sharks doesn't know the concept of team. Could blame coaching could blame management could blame Couture, doesn't matter it's a mess.
1st thing Sharks need to do is find a better coach. Maybe give Mike Babcock a call, he should be reformed now.
So these trades are all off the hip and probably need work, but they are here for discussion value and please scrutinize and criticize, but leave a little constructive criticism as well.
Also I signed Dahlen because I believe Wilson needs to find someone who can get him over to the USA, I doubt he is a superstar but he should be a good top 6 wing. I'd like to see Kane eventually down in a 3rd line roll so he doesn't have as much TOI to take bad penalties but when Sharks become a playoff team again they will still have him in their back pocket.

1.
SJS
  1. Ekholm, Mattias
Détails additionnels:
The Sharks aren't moving Karlsson, so they need to find a way to bring out the best of him. Ekholm plays a solid defensive game and he plays his best when he is paired with a good puck moving defenseman.
NSH
  1. Pasichnuk, Brinson
  2. Simek, Radim
Détails additionnels:
The Predators risk losing Ekholm in expansion. In this case the Sharks give up to viable defenseman, one will be selected in expansion and the Predators will still have a replacement in place.
2.
SJS
  1. Johnson, Tyler
  2. Choix de 1e ronde en 2021 (TBL)
  3. Choix de 3e ronde en 2022 (TBL)
Détails additionnels:
Sharks could use the draft capital and a decent right shot wing with versatility.
TBL
  1. Balcers, Rūdolfs
  2. Leonard, John
Détails additionnels:
Lightning will need the cap space and this opens up a roster spot for Kucherov when he returns. Would be a deadline move.
3.
SJS
  1. Jost, Tyson
Détails additionnels:
Sharks get a young center who hasn't lived up to his draft position but he is still young and given a chance to play up in the lineup could help him blossom.
COL
  1. Donato, Ryan
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2022 (SJS)
Détails additionnels:
Avalanche get depth scoring for the playoffs and a 2nd for a guy they would likely lose in the expansion draft.
4.
SJS
  1. Geekie, Morgan
  2. Necas, Martin
Détails additionnels:
Ideally Necas eventually takes over the 1C and pushes Couture to the wing. Geekie is a young middle 6 center should be able to hold down the 3C for the Sharks.
CAR
  1. Hertl, Tomas (1 998 334 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Sharks would retain the money needed to make the cap work for the Canes the amount I have retained is likely much larger than what would actually have to be retained at that point of the season.

The logic behind this trade, is the Canes are in a cup window, Hertl will help them more now than either Necas or Geekie.
5.
SJS
  1. Primeau, Cayden
Détails additionnels:
Sharks need someone to displace Jones as a starter. Primeau should be ready to push him soon, if not immediately. I like Primeau a lot and I'm sure the Habs won't part with him easily, but worth the discussion.
MTL
  1. Gregor, Noah
  2. Melnichuk, Alexei
  3. True, Alex
Détails additionnels:
I don't expect the Habs to take this offer, but these are decent prospects, so it's worth a shot.
6.
SJS
  1. Perfetti, Cole
Détails additionnels:
Perfetti to me offers a lot of what the Sharks lost when they let Pavelski walk. Sharks could stash him in the AHL/CHL for a bit and let him further develop.
WPG
  1. Meier, Timo
Détails additionnels:
Who adds and how much? The Jets could use a guy like Meier if he doesn't work with the cap number Jets could send back a guy like Perreault and adjust the trade a bit.

That does not touch Ekholm. They can trade him for a 1st and decent exempt prospect. Pair of stiffs does not cut it.

Nope. They are not even close to Ekholm value. Ekholm is #2/3. Simek is 4/5. BP is iffy to make it to the NHL.

Calling Simek a #4/5 is generous TBH.

NSH doesn't remotely consider this.

Why Bergevin would even entertain this idea? A premium goalie prospect for marginal players (who by the way wouldn't even crack MTL top 10 prospect list)

Simek is a 28 year old, bottom-pairing defenseman with 100 games of NHL experience... this is so far removed from what an actual Ekholm trade would look like.

Johnson is a necessity currently with Cirelli out, and Kucherov is out for the regular season, so, cap is not a concern. No deal involving Johnson will happen until the season is over.

Nashville is likely to 8-1 and protect 4 d men anyway. Only way they lose Ekholm is by choice.

As someone else noted he currently is needed and he's been a really good playoff player. Give up on the assets for the b2b run

As far as I’m concerned you have a deal with the Avalanche

Can you help me understand where you're coming from?

A 2nd round pick is nice and all, but Jost is the teams best PKer and is extremely responsible defensively at 5v5. You know exactly what you get with him which makes him an easy player to have on your 4th line. Plus he's really cheap.

Swapping Jost for Donato arguably doesn't really help the Avs win this season either, specifically as it weakens the PK (Donato doesn't PK). Donato looked good against Colorado in the 1st game (eg. 63% corsi) but he's unlikely to play on a scoring line in Colorado and I'm not sure he's a good fit on the 4th line stylistically. He's also twice as expensive.

That said, if you tell me that the 2nd rounder gets repackaged and used to get a legit 3C then I'm with you. For example, Jost for Donato + 3C, that's not bad.

This would also depend on how much money Donato and Jost are going to be looking for in the offseason. If Jost is looking likely to sign another sub-$1m deal then I'd be extremely reluctant to trade him, because that's just great value on the 4th line and PK.

Again though, I'm all ears and open to being convinced...

I mean sure If you have a deep lineup? He's kind of like Marc Methot. One of those guys where there's not much there in the way of offense but playing him top pairing minutes with someone like Burns and/or Karlsson is where he belongs. Sharks suck this year but as he gets more and more ice time he just gets more and more solid. He's much better than y'all are suggesting.

Jost right now gets protected for a number of reasons not the least of which is that he is killing it defensively and on the PK. COL right now is more interested in what them win right now and Donato isn’t an upgrade on Jost.

My thoughts:
Yes the second round pick is great and all and it is true Jost is off to a good start and will be the best PKer until Calvert comes back.

For Donato, he still has some upside and is a solid bottom 6 forward. And something I was thinking, idk if this is true but maybe just maybe Seattle shows some interest and select Donato especially if he has performs well, then the Avalanche could keep Graves.

But in general I feel this is an upgrade for the Avalanche and could help them win.

Yeah, right now Jost would be the 7th forward protected, partly because he's good, but also because his caphit is lower than Donskoi/Compher so it just makes sense to funnel Seattle towards one of those two instead.

Calvert isn't really that good of a PKer imo. Jost and Nichuskin are better. But Calvert is certainly better than Donskoi or Compher on the PK.

Donato has some upside sure, but he wouldn't be as good of a fit in the 4th line role as Jost is.

If Donato was a great skater maybe I could see the attraction but he's not.

The best part of the deal for the Avs is certainly the 2nd, which could be a very high 2nd the way SJ are trending, but Avs shouldn't really be interested in making moves for futures right now.
