Hard to gauge market and values this early. Just some ideas of potential fits.

For defenseman, roughly going off the compensation received in last year’s deadline deals for Marco Scandella, Brendan Dillon, Alec Martinez, Erik Gustaffson and Dylan Demelo.

Take out the second Boston accepts if they are looking. Might get a 3rd. 2nd and 4th they can a lot better than Nemeth.

Djoos is still an RFA after this season so he's not getting dealt, The rest look pretty close.

Merrill would get a 3rd or 4th but not a 2nd and not two picks, Nemeth might get a 2nd or 3rd but not two picks either, the rest seem reasonable but I think guys like Helm and Glendenning will go for 4ths or 5ths, same with Staal.

I don’t necessarily disagree. Admittedly these trades are all near the higher end of returns I see the players fetching. Maybe I should’ve put that in description.

But also.. with so many teams within 5 points of playoff contention, and potentially easier to make up ground within divisions, perhaps this is what the market dictates if there aren’t many other options out there bc less teams are selling.

I don’t see how his RFA status makes him immune to being dealt. If anything his current play plus his contract value and RFA status might make him one of the more appealing options out there for teams.
And if securing more draft picks for the rebuild is the goal, then the draft pick return on investment could be of greater value than resigning him since he was a waiver claim and could be replaced through the next UFA cycle.

Yeah ya never know, we'll be interesting to see what the trade market will be.

I wonder though with the cap being flat for a few years GM's might value their picks and eventual ELCs from those draft picks a little more then picking up some depth for the playoffs.

Of all the guys you have getting traded I think Bernier,
Ryan and Nemeth are the most likely dealt for better returns, do think Yzerman will respect what these guys want though meaning if they'd rather not go anywhere he won't trade them, think he'll keep Djoos around as well.

Anyone, you know how many expiring contract d men will be available? Nemeth is below average in every aspect. He’s a depth piece.

Fully expect guys like Ryan Murray, Hjalmersson, Goligidki, Oesterle, McCabe, Cole, Gudbransson, Benn etc etc to be available.

If you can get a 2nd and 4th for Nemeth, take it and run, you won the lottery.

There's comes a time when you don't only trade for picks. Detroit needs to start adding prospects that teams are willing to give up on so that they can gradually start being more competitive sooner. Adding any pick outside the 1st round takes likely 4-6 years to really have an impact on the team. They wanna be contending before then

Maybe teams are valuing their picks more for said reasons, could be.

Bobby Ryan is the only guy I see Yzerman not trading if he doesn’t want to be. Maybe Glendening as well, but a hard maybe. Yzerman has shown in past as GM to not be much of a sentimental type, more like business is business.

So Boston is going to pay a 2nd and 4th so Nemeth can sit in the press box and watch games? Seems like an odd strategy for asset management.

You can always add those second - fourth rounders to create a pipeline. We have guys like Seider, Raymond, Berggren, Johansson, and Veleno making the jump in the next year or so. Then the next group Wallinder, Niederbach, Tuomisto, Soderblom, etc. What’s the harm in adding those second - fourth rounders versus losing the player for nothing? Do we need to move all of them? No, but Yzerman is probably having or had discussions with our player personnel staff to determine who is ready for the jump so they can plan on who is going to get re-signed and what holes need filled. It also helps that Detroit has a boatload of cap so they can pursue whoever they want or acquire cap dumps for more picks.

Then you bring in veterans to help the young kids. The point is to surround your young players that will make the jump sooner with better talent so they're not used to the losing environment. Adding late round picks that may or may not make the roster for 4-6 years doesn't help their development

You bring in veterans via FA not through trading. There isn’t a cookie cutter plan to the Stanley Cup except acquiring the most complete/efficient team. Acquiring prospects/picks for expiring veterans is really a no down side approach to maximizing asset management. Like I said Yzerman is having or already had discussions surrounding what holes need filled (eg 2C, 1LHD) these are then filled via FA.

Can't see very many Canadian teams buying from outside the North division the 2 week rule when coming into Canada just reduces the value of a TDL pick up

Unless they’re willing to trade much earlier than a normal deadline, sooner than later, since many teams are now beginning to have a clearer picture of both where they stand within division as well as their strengths and weaknesses.

First off, full health, Clifton is a healthy scratch. Next, I can 100% guarantee that Lauzon would not be coming out. He plays on the top pairing and top PK unit. So that leaves you with Zboril or Miller. I can't see Nemeth taking Millers spot. For one, Nemeth is a LHD and Miller a RHD. Boston ideally likes to have LHD play LD and RHD play RD. Next, Miller is another PK guy that Boston relies on heavily. While he ranks 3rd in TOI for Bruins, he's played only about a minute less than the top two guys (Carlo/Lauzon). So that leaves Zboril, and I don't see Nemeth as an upgrade.
