Think he'll play a year in AHL to accustom himself to a smaller rink and NA hockey.

            Additional Details:
            2021 NHL Entry Draft deal

Ottawa takes this deal, since it's at the amateur draft, the signing bonus will have been paid, and only $3MM salary owed to Eriksson. Ottawa can buy out Eriksson for $2MM, take a cap hit of $4MM next season, and $1MM the following season, and they get Kole Lind and a 2nd round pick, and decide later on whether or not to QO that other guy.

Please tell me why Seattle takes an underperforming goalies making over $4M per season for free when there's gonna be way better options available?

A big factor of his below average performances is the teams he has in front of him. He's not the Vezina goalie he used to be, but I doubt there'll be much better options than him.

Honestly the only reason is because there's not many other options from VAN.

They're not taking Beagle or Roussel. Myers is very unlikely due to his long contract.

That leaves Holtby and Motte, and some random iffy prospects like Gadjovich. And I think they could form the best deal for Holtby at the 2021-22 deadline compared to anyone else available. Some contending team would most likely be willing to take a risk for a half retained Holtby as a depth goalie. At $2,65M, Holtby could be a great 2G for any contender with his playoff history.

Like said, he's probably the best / most valuable option available from Nucks in terms of trade value.

All other players available are either 4th liners or random prospects unlikely to ever reach NHL.

I could see the leafs being interested in a deal like that but I can’t see them doing hallander and a 2nd. Maybe engvall or Petan and a 2nd or a lower ranked prospect and a 2nd.

Well Engvall is not an option as TOR can't move him without acquiring another forward under contract for 2021-22 season (ExD rules).

            Petan is meh. Maybe Korshkov+2nd.

Bishop and Allen are much better than him and I say that as a Canucks fan. TBH in this scenario, SEA wastes no time snagging up Motte

Bishop has NMC and MTL is most likely paying Seattle to not take Allen as their goalie tandem is finally working relatively well.

            I'd much rather take Dickinson+Edmundson+Holtby+picks over Allen+Khudobin+Motte.

            It's asset management.

Seattle is selecting 31 players. Many of them will be 3rd, 4th or even 5th liners. Seattle would prefer to take a non NHLer from the Canucks than 4.25m Holtby. Lots of better options are better including UFAs.

Seattle is selecting 31 players. Many of them will be 3rd, 4th or even 5th liners. Seattle would prefer to take a non NHLer from the Canucks than 4.25m Holtby. Lots of better options are better including UFAs.

They're selecting 30. VGK is not taking part in the ExD.

Most likely as teams have learned from the Vegas draft, there won't be as much good options available, meaning Seattle will start from the bottom, building the team with time.

Then it becomes asset management. And like I said earlier, with Holtby's track record, he might fetch a good trade deadline deal at 2021-22 season half retained. Holtby at $2,6M or something is an enticing piece to any kind of contender as a 2G. I could bet anything that he'd bring them a better return than for example Motte would, should he get moved.

They won't take him. They'd take a prospect over that. Holtby hasn't been good in almost 5 years and that's while he was still on the Capitals. If you want Seattle to take him, you'd have to pay them.

The Capitals were never a good defensive team. With one-year left on his deal, I could see Francis, who is not a big risk taker, playing it safe based on his reputation.

I wager Francis is going to make a choice between Talbot, Allen and Holtby. They're the best goalies available. But unlike VAN, they also have some good options to pick from in MTL and MIN.

Let's just say I wouldn't be surprised if they don't take Holtby. But should they take him, that wouldn't surprise me either.

If Podkolzin comes over for next year, I'd consider playing him. Seeing the success that Kaprizov has had without an adjustment period for the smaller rinks, I think that Podkolzin could slot into a top 9 role with power play time right out of the gate in the NHL.

Difference between Kaprizov and Podkolzin was that when Kaprizov came to NHL, he was probably the best player in the whole KHL. Podkolzin isn't even the best player of his team, by a long-shot quite yet.

Think he needs a year in AHL to accustom himself to NA hockey, as I said earlier.

The year Washington won the cup that had Barry Trotz as head coach who's known for his defensive game. Holtby still had a .907sv% that season and actually lost his starters job to Grubauer to start the playoffs. The Caps even won their division that year.

The ship has sailed on Holtby.

Best goalies available? ... Dallas is going to have to leave 1 of Bishop of Khudobin available. Both are better than all 3 of those goalies and are proven starters. They'd take them and take better players from Vancouver.

Well Bishop has NMC so he's not moving. Dobby is a good option, but I do think they're taking either Dickinson, or in a relatively unlikely scenario, Pavelski from Dallas.
