56 games is a rather small season.

Long story short, I don't doubt the Leafs are on the lookout for a middle 6 fwd, as the Leafs are being carried by their 1st line and their PP. Aside from a few mixes on the 4th line, every other line has struggled.

I'd prefer mgmt look into fixing some of the issues, rather than pull the "bury their head in the sand" approach.

Not over the last 4 games, they have been just better or good enough to win. End of the day the Leafs are finding ways to win.

I think it could easily be Ryan but I also think the price could easily change. Yes Ryan is playing well now but with his situation it could change. Last weekend when asked about Bennett asking for a trade Burke said I really like Bennett but you have to make yourself trade-able if you ask for a trade. Now Burke is in Pittsburgh and the odds of Bennett going to Pittsburgh I think went up quite a bit, but who knows?

Kerfoot 5v5 corsi is 45%. Hyman’s is 49%. Mikheyev is 44%. Simmonds 48%. Spezza 49%. But please continue to tell me how good they are.

They’re bad.

First off they're middle of the line up players. Compare them to other middle of the line up players.

Secondly:
CF% alone is silly, we all know that. Kerfoot's has been poor this year, but this is the first year he has had a negative CF%Rel in his 4 year career, and the last two years he was above 50%. I'll go with the sample size on this one. He is also getting heavier defensive zone starts being used more in a checking role.

Hyman is 49.7. Statistically his error bars to judge his true talent would like be over 50%. He's doing that with heavy defensive zone starts. So thats good

Simmonds is about our 10th best forward, so he's fine for 10th best forward....

Mikheyev has a 65.3% defensive zone start. He's playing heavy defensive minutes. His CF% unadjusted will look bad, its lazy statistics to not try to analyze that.

Spezza is about our 11th best forward, he's excellent for that. His two way game is slipping, but its fine and he still has offesnive spark.

If you think there are more than maybe 2-3 teams who have a

5th best forward significantly better than Hyman
6th and 7th best forward significantly better than Kerfoot and Thornton
8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th best forwards significantly better than say Mikheyev, Vesey, Simmonds, and Spezza

Then I'd like to see.

They aren't studs, but they are depth players.

Tampa is deeper. Perhaps Colorado or Boston.

But chose your team and compare there 5th-11th forwards. Nobody's 5th-11th forwards are that good...

TOR 5v5 isn’t great with the 4 stars and you’re acting like the rest of the fwds are on their level.

You still haven't answered my question.

I'm not saying if they're great or not. I think people have super unrealistic expectations of what a 2nd and 3rd liner are.

I don't think Toronto's depth are world beaters or anything, but I think they're fine. I think people expect a teams 6th and 7th best forward to be a guy like Brock Boeser, when in reality it's a guy like Tanner Pearson or even Gaudette

I don’t have unrealistic expectations. I knew the depth was poor going into the season. Adding old players at league minimum isn’t improving the team. You’re just blinded by homerism. As for your question idc. I showed they were poor individually and you just ignored it.

You didn't show they were poor individually. You used a single stat that shows Hyman at league average and Kerfoot as poor, but conveniently only used a 14 game sample of a guy with a 20+ game career (where he was way better). Simmonds is depth and Spezza is where you would expect for a guy that deep in your line up...

But if you think that you can accurately judge a player simply by his CF% over the last 14 games without a single other fact, that's just silly

My point is not that they're awesome. It's that they're fine for depth players. Nobody has world beaters at that deep in their organization.
