It’s not a mystery. It’s a guess from Friedman which is why he won’t say the players name.

It kind of is a mystery as Friedman first reported Dubas was looking to add help in the forward core than a week later said he thinks he knows who it is but wont say yet.

So the mystery is who is Friedman thinking of as while others have said Dubas is looking for a forward (preferably a LW) but none have said definitively who it is. Only speculations on Bennet, Virtanen or Gaudette at this point

You’re right that Friedman’s thought is a mystery but my point was more along the lines of TOR hasn’t zero’ d in on anyone yet. Friedman has a guess as to a player that would fit well.

I don’t think his guess is any of the 3 you’ve pointed out.

I'm kind of wondering why Dubas thinks the team needs help at forward. Yes there's injuries but none of them are ones where the players are lost for the entire season...so why not tough it out?

I don't get it... Dubas finally got depth at D and now suddenly it's a good idea to trade that depth to help the forwards who BTW seem to be doing fine.

Someone please explain.

I’m pretty sure it’s someone on a US team. OTT and VAN don’t really have what seem like movable top 6 fwds. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s someone like Rakell.

The fwd group after the top 4 is pretty poor actually.

Motte on the Canucks could be a possible target. His impact on the Canucks is similar to Hyman's with the Leafs and is progressing offensively year over year. Would be a good opportunity to pick him up to shore up the top six and add further depth.

I could see a trade between the two teams occurring. Maybe the centre pieces are Motte and Dermott and build around it? Add another minor impact player from both sides to balance out the cap for both teams as they're both near the cap limit and Toronto adds a draft pick (4th or 5th round) to compensate the Canucks for trading away a cost controlled player in Motte for this season and next. Canucks get a boost in defense as Dermott is great at neutral zone denials, plays with sandpaper, can play both defensive positions, can chip in offensively, and remains an RFA after this season's contract is finished.

My guess is Bennett. Considering the condensed season and how much can change during a quarantine period it’s more likely a deal within Canada.

We have a big opportunity this year, and I will preface this by saying that the F group has been fine and when someone gets hurt one of the depth players has always stepped up. And yes, the injured players will be back for the playoffs, but...

The concern is that if this team were to rack up many injuries again heading into the playoffs, I think we'd want another middle 6 F ideally. It would really bolster that F group. And even without any injuries it might be nice.

I don't disagree, but adding that piece with everyone healthy will create cap issues. Like you said, the depth has stepped up with the injuries they have had so far, keep rolling with it until something drastic happens.

Bull.

Hyman is good.

Kerfoot isn't a world beater but he's fine as a 3c.

Thornton, Spezza, Simmonds, Robertson, Mikheyev are all good or better for a teams 4th-8th winger.

4th liners are not worth worrying about.

Motte is a 4th liner. He scored a few goals in one week this year. Otherwise he's just a bit hitter.

It's just Martin all over again

Friedman thinks they are interested, Dreger says Dubas wants to see what they have in house first. So it's all made up speculation

He doesn't, or at least there is zero proof he does. It's just media speculation and the guy who started it says he won't name a player because he can't prove it. Just saying crap to rile up fans, that's all this is.

2 of the 3 injured forwards are back as soon as Saturday. Are we just planning on sitting Robertson again?

OHL is restarting soon apparently. If he's not getting the minutes in the NHL they should send him back there.

He'll be in the lineup I'd wager. Was getting his shot before getting hurt and has nothing to prove in the OHL. I hope he can make his way up the lineup and find some minutes on the 2nd line from time to time.

I think he's better than the OHL but at the same time I think he's getting bottom 6 minutes in the NHL as opposed to probably playing the most minutes on his team in the OHL. Tough call

Not really, he's way too good for the OHL and I think getting 2nd PP and 3rd line minutes will be a good learning experience for him.

I really think the rumours mean nothing. Of course Dubas is looking to add.....but so are the 30 other teams. I look at all the Leaf players, no one has played badly this season. The problem with "adding" a piece you think is needed, is what "subtraction" from your lineup it costs.
IMO the Leafs shouldn't be trading any Dmen. They have just 6 known NHLers on the lineup plus Lehtonen and Sandin. You need that depth for a long playoff run.
So are what the combo of Leaf forwards that would bring a better forward in return. Just don't see any available forwards from the North division that would be available. I really can't see anybody.
