Just bury Moore instead of acquiring another 4th liner (with NTC). RNH isn't guaranteed to re-sign.

....because it’s edmonton? Not sure if you’ve been keeping track of things for the past few decades, but players seem to want to get out of edmonton, and only go there when they get overpaid, or are restricted.

Because this is the very first opportunity he’s had to do so. Normally, when players get that opportunity, they take it.

Is there anything about that statement that is wrong? Edmonton has never been a destination for UFAs.

They are finally getting into a groove winning hockey games. They need another high powered left winger and a goaltender and they are a serious team. You realize RNH has played his whole hockey career including junior in Alberta right? His wife is also from red deer. It doesn’t look like Boston can afford nuge either. Edmonton will end up signing him for 7x8 the offer is currently 7x6 I’m sure they want 8x8 but nobody else can offer the 8th year of contract so they will all go with 8x7.

The team is good. It’s still edmonton. That’s the problem.

Edmonton is an exciting place for hockey. The new arena and the buildings they built around it are really something. The residences that a lot of the players stay in have a pedway to the rink. The fans and everything, few teams have that experience. In the winter they are playing hockey so they aren’t too concerned about what’s going on outside. In summer the city is a different place. There is lots of green space a beach all kinds of stuff. Most players go back to where they are from when they aren’t playing hockey anyway.

So why does the city/team have a history of not being able to attract players on the open market? Just an odd coincidence?

They used to play in an arena by the tracks in a **** hole part of town with several hobos it was like a 45 minute drive to the rink from any nice neighbourhood and lots of rush hour traffic as well as an underdeveloped freeway system. Housing and beautification wasn't developed nearly as much as it has been the last 5 years.

The arena itself wasn't bad but location and the city didn't really appeal to hockey players that are used to Dallas and LA. They also never spent to the cap before so they could never afford to resign players and they had no good players to play with till maybe 2011.

Every city has weather girls. No trade clauses were invented for edmonton. This is universal knowledge. Cmon.
