Description
These are the players that I think have the greatest potential to be traded by NSH this season. I think Richardson, Haula, and Granlund will all be traded -- Jarnkrok and Ekholm could be, but not for certain. If NSH really decides to open it up, I could see Grimaldi, Johansen, Borowiecki, and more hit the block. I really don't know if there should be any safe players right now outside of Josi and maybe Forsberg. They'll just have to make sure they still have players to expose in the SEA draft.
Transactions
1.
NSH
A team looking for a cheap, experienced 4C that can win faceoffs and play PK -- likely nothing more than a 5th rounder or so in return. Could consider retention to make him more enticing for teams as long as NSH doesn't already have 3 deals in place with retention by the deadline.

I could see TBL, EDM, TOR, VGK, BOS, VAN, WSH showing interest
    2.
    NSH
A team looking for depth at a cheap price -- a player that can play PK and anywhere in the lineup, any position. If they're lucky, they may be able to get lucky and snag a 1st from a team -- but if not, a couple of picks will likely suffice (maybe a prospect). NSH can also take a contract to help out salary wise for certain teams.

I could see TBL, PIT, COL, EDM, TOR, VGK, and CBJ showing interest
      TBL
      1. Järnkrok, Calle (1 000 000 $ retained)
      3.
      NSH
2nd or 3rd round pick depending on how he plays and the interest around the league -- maybe something like a 2nd, a 3rd, or a 3rd + 7th, etc.

I could see PIT, COL, CGY, DAL, EDM, and VGK having interest.
        4.
        NSH
A 1st + mid round pick or B prospect should get this done with retention.

I could see EDM, PIT, CGY, DAL, and VAN showing some interest here.
          EDM
          1. Granlund, Mikael (1 875 000 $ retained)
          5.
          NSH
This would be the biggest player that NSH could potentially trade this season. With retention, I think NSH could get a pretty good haul for Ekholm. I think that a 1st is a given, after that I think they should be able to get a solid prospect out of a team, and with retention they should be able to get another pick -- so maybe something like a 1st + 3rd + B+/A- prospect

I could see WPG, EDM, BOS, BUF, FLA, NYR, VAN, and VGK showing interest here.
            WPG
            1. Ekholm, Mattias (1 875 000 $ retained)
            6.
            NSH
They might be able to get something like a 7th from a team looking to add some defensive depth. He played well in WPG last season, but hasn't has much of a chance in NSH so far with injuries and their depth.

I could see CGY, BOS, VAN, EDM, and PIT maybe having interest. Either way, it won't be a very good return but they may be able to get something for him.

He's been on IR for about 2 weeks now -- it's not on Poile that he's not playing. I'm sure if he was healthy he would be playing over Tinordi, who is playing waaaaay too much right now. And WPG allowed Poile (or any team) to grab Sbisa -- if they didn't waive him then he'd still be in WPG, so...

I think these are all reasonable asks for these players. My big worry now is that Poile waits too long to sell, and the season gets canceled before it's complete. Then he doesn't get anything for his expiring UFAs (like last year, when he should have been getting assets for guys like Smith, Granlund, Bonino instead of thinking he had a playoff team).

I'd be surprised if they cancel the season -- I think they'd rather reduce the number of games from 56 to 40 or something before they consider that. But I do think NSH should sell these guys sooner rather than later. With covid protocols, it's better to trade for guys earlier since they may have to participate in quarantines and whatnot -- I mean, Dubois hasn't even played a game for WPG yet. Poile needs to realize soon that this is not a playoff team and start making some calls.

I the Oil are still concerned at the deadline that Klef is not coming back by next fall fully healthy, if you think that Nash would retain on Ekholm 50% carrying into next season, I'd trade 2021 1st, 2022 3rd and either Caleb Jones or Samorukov for him. This is if management thinks Klef wouldn't start for a good chunk for the 2021-22 season, if ever again. Then Oil would protect Bear, Nurse and Ekholm in expansion and be pretty well set on D. Makes sense from this Oilers fan.

I would be hesitant to trade Ekholm for another defenseman that requires expansion draft protection -- Caleb Jones. But I think the general idea of a 1st + 3rd + young player here makes sense. I'd probably want a better prospect than Samorukov though.

What would they be willing to give up in your opinion? And retention is an option

They are in a cap crunch. Sending Bellemare just to help out cap wise would probably needed. I could see them moving a 2nd and maybe a Bowers/kaut type guy in this type of deal

or they work on a deal that flips compher in there. Not sure what is more ideal for the Preds

I think NSH would be more interested in expansion draft-exempt players. I don't mind Compher, but I think NSH has too many middle 6 forwards as it is. They also need to make some room for their prospects to have a chance to make the team. If NSH is also taking Bellemare on top of retaining some of Jarnkrok's salary, I would probably ask for additional compensation added to the 2nd + Kaut/Bowers deal -- like another mid pick or something, but maybe not.

I think a 1st, 3rd & Samorukov would be acceptable for Ekholm without the retention, but yeah a better prospect would be needed with NSH retaining that much. Jones wouldn't be of much interest like @villenash said, because of expansion considerations.

I think NSH would be more interested in expansion draft-exempt players. I don't mind Compher, but I think NSH has too many middle 6 forwards as it is. They also need to make some room for their prospects to have a chance to make the team. If NSH is also taking Bellemare on top of retaining some of Jarnkrok's salary, I would probably ask for additional compensation added to the 2nd + Kaut/Bowers deal -- like another mid pick or something.

what is Järnkroks deal this year. Just was looking into his season a bit more, seems like hes been getting caved in in a more defensive role.
Belle makes 1.8m. Järnkrok makes 2m so they dont need the salary retention, basically balances out

I would be hesitant to trade Ekholm for another defenseman that requires expansion draft protection -- Caleb Jones. But I think the general idea of a 1st + 3rd + young player here makes sense. I'd probably want a better prospect than Samorukov though.

Overpay for Ekholm IMO. And you'd want a better prospect than Samorukov? Have you been paying attention? He's the best shutdown defender in the 2nd best league in the world. He's worth at least as much as the 1st round pick. This offer is 1st + 1st + 3rd. You won't get a better offer than that.

Would you rather a defensive or fwd prospect? Broberg and Bouchard are surely A prospects, so outside your proposed B+/A- range. Samo is defs at least a B+ prospect, playing shutdown D in KHL very well. But could also see McLeod or Benson sent as fwd options.

Yeah, he has $2m for this and next season. If no retention, I think Bellemare + 2nd + Kaut/Bowers would be accepted by NSH.

simliar to the coleman type deal, you area really buying the cheaper next year as well, pay a bit of a premium to get that for a middle 6 guy. I think there is a deal there to be made if nashville sells. Sakic and Poille have no issues doing business with one another even when they were in teh same division. If Preds sell I think Sakic calls

Not everyone values Samorukov that highly.

I have always been curious about Benson, but I wonder if he'll actually stick in the NHL. If he can get his game together, he could be a solid 2nd line power forward. I'll need to look more into Samorukov, but I'm just not sure a LHD prospect is the right move for NSH when they have quite a couple of LHD prospects in the system that should see NHL action soon (Farrance, Davies). I wonder if a deal around Granlund + Ekholm could work where NSH gets something like picks + Benson + Samorukov.

Setting Broberg and Bouchard aside, Lavoie and Savoie are the EDM prospects that intrigue me the most for the Preds.

They should. It was reported after the Memorial Cup 2019 tournament that Edmonton had received many calls on Samorukov, so it appears NHL GM's aren't in your group. They know.

That was a year and a half ago, and GMs kicking tires on a prospect isn't necessarily an indication that he's one of the best prospects outside of the NHL. Guys like Pronman and Mitchell don't have him ranked in the top five of Oilers prospects - Wheeler doesn't even have him in the top ten of his recent ranking.

Regardless, LD prospects aren't one of NSH's biggest needs.

Basically an player that is not under 25 is a player that should be listed as a possible trade candidate. I'd throw Forsberg into the list of player available for this trade deadline (only if they get multiple good pieces) Duchene, Ellis, Ardvisson are all notice too, but they are more of an offseason type deals.
