I don't see how Calgary doesn't pursue that as best they can. If they can get Danault and get Backlund to Seattle it's nearly a seamless transition to a player younger that seems to be just finding his ceiling and maintains the defensive pedigree that Backlund has carried for so long.

Gotta think Montreal is in a "win" mode, so Denault needs to stay this season.

I agree. Right now Suzuki is #1 and KK is so close to #2, but you saw last night when both have off nights what happens because both stunk in the faceoffs and Danault was more visible yesterday. Because of the team make up this year, I think Danault stays, but he may not accept to be 3rd C next year and want to be moved.

I don't think contending teams should ever worry about upcoming UFAs. You owe it to your players in the lineup and the fans to "go for it" in the current. And so what if leaves as UFA. Let's imagine he gets 5m from another team. Well the Habs can certainly spend 5m and get a very good player themselves.
