With an extension, for sure. And then I would work on a package to get Backlund to Seattle. Flames would get essentially Backlund, younger, faster and still growing his game for close to the same price and long term certainty, love the deal.

No way, Danault is worth 5M/year. He is slow , has the worst shot among the team.
Jake Evans is actually a better asset in the team and the days of Danault are counted.

You’re half right, half wrong.
It is true that Danault is not a very good shooter.
But to say that he’s slow pretty much invalidates anything else that you write in the rest of your posts. He’s an excellent defensive center who’s asking for too much money from this particular team, but he’ll be valuable wherever he ends up, there’s no doubt there. I agree that his days in Montreal are most probably numbered.
