I should have worded it differently I guess. Boston was the only team to offer a 1st (with Heinen) for Palms.
We'll agree to disagree on Beecher. Most scouting reports I've seen and the few scouts I've spoken with have Beecher as a 3C at worst with upside of a 2C if he's willing to get more agressive in the o-zone. It's not a lack of talent for his low offense, its him wanting to be a responsible 200ft player, so he's less willing to take chances that may burn his team if the puck goes the other way.
Oh, no, a few teams offered 1st for Palms. Calgary (Prospect d-man, a 4th liner and a 1st), Florida, I think Carolina, and another Canadian team (when Bob McKenzie reported Palmieri declined to waive). So the market was there. I think NJD just felt it was better to try to resign him.
Beecher was once a projected top-10 pick for his class based on his size, speed. His stock went down considerably at USNTDP and now he is playing bottom-6 in college. The lack of offensive is the concern. Hopefully he finds his game and earns 2C opportunities. But I’d be surprised if any scouts think that’s in the cards.
